Default sl500 air box,3 inch tubes on drivers side??

hey guys ordered and put on my new mercedes air box with kn filters yesterday it was reasonably easy.cut my hand a little tryimg to remove the air silencers(little plastic pieces on either side of radiator) but got them off. i looked around on the forum a bit but didnt see to much mentioned on how to get the tubes around both sides of the radiator. What i did find was similair to how things are now passenger side great but driver side stops right at the radiator and im sure it some hot ? cold air getting in there. HAs anyone got around this? just wondering if there were any suggestions i did not see.

P.S> my first real performance mod. nice to have something better than custom eyebrows and some door molding i put on my grill!!!! pics comeing this week!

The only thing I could come up with was laminar flow. They're not for drainage (as they're circumferential) so it must be something to offset the ribbed piping that follows. Never was a detriment to flow.

Maybe, just maybe, they are there for flexibility? People have to bend/flex some and this seems like a novel way to accomplish this flexing. I don't quite know why they would use a porous material though. Has anyone asked the manufacturer?

But... they don't flex.

The tubes have flexible sections built into them, the "ring of screens" is rigid and doesn't budge. No, I haven't emailed Daimler-Benz corporate and asked them, but the effect on performance (positive or negative) is so marginal that I never invested the effort.
