Default Stereo system problem

Gents, another little problem I've been victim to...

The music god hates me I think....

Some times when I power up the stereo unit - by a single push on the volume button, the display
will simply read CHRYSLER ..... and the devise in none functional...

tried loading and removing CD's and turning on/off many times, switching off the ignition and on again....

then when it's got the better of me, I will try a few days later and it works perfectly, for weeks, then quits again without warning.

It never fails during playing music, only on power up initially....

Any clues ???

Cheers
Grant B

In addition, you might want to clean the multipin connector using electronic contact cleaner. Oxidation on electronic connectors (unless they are gold contacts) is common over time. Contact cleaner comes in an aerosol can and can be purchased from Radio Shack/The Source.

Good advice on cleaning the pin connector, that probably would have been my next step. I should have pointed out that in my case I could not even get the Crossfire logo to come up when I turned on the head unit by pushing in on the left main control button. But the symptoms were just as you described
Good luck

I have the same problem occasionally. It seems to work if I turn the engine off & wait 15 minutes. Where is the radio sub fuse? I want to try that.

My bad, when I said I pulled the sub fuse I should have said I pulled the sound booster ( amp ) fuse located in cir# 23 in the underhood fuse block. My radio fuse's are listed as cir# 5 & 8 (coupe ) roadster is listed as cir#30. Also listed is cir#35 for radio frequency remote control, hazard warning flasher .....
This info is from the 06 owners manual sorry for the confusion.
Cheers

I tried cleaning the radio fuses listed in the manual. I used a toothbrush on the fuses and sprayed the empty fuse connectors in the fuse box with a cleaner. It still does not work 5% of the time. It will work if I shut the engine off, remove the key, reinsert and turn the ignition back on.
