Google Fiber Today
Google Fiber Today
Scheduled to get Google Fiber installed at 11:00 AM today.......probably fewer than a hundred people in the world already have it in and working???? Should be interesting.......
Last Thursday 10 inches of snow, yesterday about 12 inches......finally got some use out of the snowblower I bought a couple of years ago.

Re: Google Fiber Today
I'd never heard of it until now. Sounds like you won't be waiting on downloads, not even movie downloads anymore.
"Google Fiber starts with a connection speed 100 times faster than today's broadband.
Instant downloads. Crystal clear high definition TV. And endless possibilities.
It's not cable. And it's not just Internet. It's Google Fiber. "

Re: Google Fiber Today
Supposed to take 2-3 hours to rewire the whole house with fiber optic lines......I've been unhappy with Time-Warner lately......watching the KU Jayhawks on the HD station is a joke......very jerky & freezes.....have had to switch over to analog station often.
On a positive note......I've won $30-$100 every day (except during the blizzard of OZ) for the last 40 or so days playing blackjack at the casino......kind of a nice hobby since I retired New Years Eve.

Re: Google Fiber Today
I'd love that setup, I guess it beats dial up on a cradle modem attached to an IBM PC.
I have just cleared out my old computer stuff, I had stripped and saved my old computers for parts and they are now recycled. I am left with my new i7 based computer, I could not part with an acquired IBM PC with its two floppy drives and 9"(?) CRT, which runs on DOS 3.3 when we play with it. We have come a long way from that machine. Maybe Rudy can come up with an improved CPU cooler for me when the one I have craps out. Copper of course, to heck with the cost. LOL

Watching the Jayhawks on any station is a joke, especially when the refs are pulling for them. Yes, I took your quote out of context, but what do expect from a Wildcat.
I have to admit that the Jayhawks are my second favorite team; however, I'm rooting for anyone they play now so my Wildcats can win the conference.

Re: Google Fiber Today
So far it appears that if you are not watching any TVs in the house ...then you can download stuff at speeds around 950 mbps. This compares to Time Warner's best of about 15 mbps. However, if you're watching a TV and downloading at speeds around 150 mbps.....then we've seen some distortions on the TV elsewhere in the house that's being viewed. Once you slow the download (my son the guru) to 150 then the distortions completely go away on the current program you're watching. The guru thinks Google software updates may eventually improve this issue.
He's going to do some testing to be more exact about the 150 #. The trick is to find files large enough to download that cause the distortions. He also thinks most servers can't pump > 150 anyway.
Keep in mind that the KC area is the big test mule for Google......

Re: Google Fiber Today
DKA, that has to be the strangest end to a game I've ever seen.....KS ST & Baylor tied with 1.0 second left....Baylor throws a hail mary to the other end of the court trying to get lucky & the ball goes clear out the other end of the court without anyone ever touching it......so no time off the clock......KS ST gets to bring it in under their own goal with 1.0 left still.......3 pts?????? Serious luck......
Oh well, at least KU moved up to #4 & will probably get a #1 seed in the brackets!!!!!!!!!!

Hello Chris, Once Google Fiber figures out how to shake the bugs out of their system, you will undoubtedly enjoy your IPTV service no matter what or how much you watch or use your internet for.
Here at the 'Gig City', There are about 50,000 FTTP (Fiber To The Premises) subscribers and growing were I live now with 170,000 homes and businesses connected to fiber. We've been enjoying blazing fast fiber optic TV, Phone and internet speeds at home for over 4 years. And we've never experience any major glitches since day 1. Full movie downloads from Netflix or Hulu takes a whopping 2-4 seconds! I can go online and participate in one of the auction sites and pretty much outbid anyone, at will, at the last second. Game play, music and video downloads....The lists of benefits go on. Our fiber optic service starts at $58/mo, free install and no yearly committments. Sequential 1Gig upload as well as download is available to anyone here.

Re: Google Fiber Today
Australia has been busy rolling out FTTH (fibre to the home)l @ 100mbps download and 40mbps upload.
I am on it now and its very fast, but if google fiber in the US is offering 1gbps? then this is so much faster than what we are getting
Japan offers 2gbps download speeds and 1gbps upload! that will practically download an entire 15gb bluray movie in about 15 seconds! provided your source can pull the speed and your computer is fast enough to process this speed (not possible unless you have a enterprise grade server! still fast though!

Re: Google Fiber Today
Epb is currently working with internet specialists and dignitaries from Australia among others from many European cities on how sequential 1gig be achieved in their respective hometowns. Epb has also acquired the largest fiber company responsible for software development, technical support and equipment manufacturing in the USA. That company, also an equipment supplier to google fiber, will remain nameless at this time until the official announcement is made.
Guidance, Support and development is available now to our friends down under. Rollout for sequential 1gig upload and download in Australia could be possible within one to two years.
