Default very high speed braking??

it occurs to me that i have no real idea how all the electronic stuff will effect how the car behaves in very hard braking at very high speeds. i'm talking locking it up north of 110 or so.

anyone have any real experience at that?? maybe on a track??

dan

I don't think you would WANT to lock up the brakes at 110mph. Even at the track, people crash doing that! (they don't usually have anti-lock brakes on drag race cars)

ok, so what happened? what did it feel like? did the computer keep it straight? what kind of surface were you on?

for clarity, i know about a.b.s. i know about not locking up the brakes. man, if i get bored with the x-fire, i've got 1700cc's of fuel-injected thunder in the barn. i know speed.

all machines behave differently and i'm just looking for some feedback from someone who has been there.

thanks

I've been in many cars at 100+ on a road course. Going hot into a turn will force the front end to loose its grip for a second. The key is figuring out that point the tires will keep on gripping.

ABS will still kick in, you won't just slide. Turning abs off will give you a greater stopping distance. You don't want that.

Does it keep the car straight? Yes. As long as you are still going straight. The EPS will even apply more brake pressure to the side needed to keep the car from spinning out from an improper steering / braking decision by the driver.

If for some reason you feel the car is going in the wrong direction during a stop, simply let off on the brakes for a second, redirect the car in the direction you wish to go, and get back on the brakes.

With this car's setup, you are working with the limitations of the tires and brakes. Do too many 100+ hard stops and you will not only be looking for new pads, but new rotors as well.

Well houstondan, we all have 3200cc's of fuel injected thunder in our garages, Mercedes style!
