Crossfire meets elk
I was heading to work at 3:00am Friday morning and unfortunately an elk decided to run across the highway right in front of me. I barely had time to hit the brakes, but it was too late. Thankfully these cars are built well, so I wasn't hurt in the accident. The car wasn't so lucky. Hopefully the damage isn't so much my insurance will total the car instead of repair it. I've only had it since January, but have already become attached to it.

Ouch! Glad you're OK. Luckily the damage to your XF only appears to be to the glass, roof panel and mirror. I don't see that as totaled. Good luck!
Thanks everyone. I'm glad I'm ok too.
Most of the damage was glass, the side mirror, dented roof and frame above the door, drivers side fog light, broken drivers side visor, and scratched/chipped paint.

Once again the driver walks away. Glad you're ok. So sorry about the car. I imagine that the insurance will total it. Looks like a.bunch of sellable parts left. If you got the room it may pay to by it back and either repair it or part it out.
I'm with Sandy, that doesn't look totaled at all. Good thing it didn't go through the windshield, lol.
These little cars really protect the contents of the passenger compartment. Glad you can tell us the story. On the plus side, you are the first to bag an elk. No moose or buffalo yet but lots of deer.
I stopped by the body shop after work today to see how things were going and unfortunately I found out that my insurance is calling it a total loss. I should hear from them within a day or two what they are going to offer me.
From what I've seen online, most dealers are asking between 10k-14k.
Mine was an 04' with 66k.

The insurance adjuster didn't think it was going to be a total loss either at first, but between parts and labor the estimate came in at just over 9k.
Well unless you planned to keep it and drive the wheels off it, I guess it's a "win" for you. Most people seem to move on to the next "for sale" when they see accident in a vehicle report. Got $1400 when the wife hit a deer in her Tahoe. I fixed and upgraded for right at $500. So if and when sold we get a grand less over it.. well it's just paid in advance.
Total loss for the elk as well. It was still lying on the roadside when I drove in to work yesterday.
I hit it on a two lane highway doing about 55mph.
