Default Couple Questions From An Old Owner

Hey guys,
Been following the forum for about 3 years now and the discussions here have been ultimate life savers (especially doing my radiator fan) but I've come across two things I can't figure out and haven't been able to find a thread about.

1) I'm possibly going to be shipping my car on the autotrain from FL to DC and they say I need to turn off the alarm as it'll go off while bouncing around. Is there a way to do that? Or is pulling the fuse the easiest thing? (Also, anyone have autotrain experience? Yay/nay?)

2) I just had a bit of work done to the car that has been needing to get done (things I couldn't do on my own) and the mechanic mentioned that the oil pan gasket/seal is weak or seeping. I was under the car and it didn't seem to actually be leaking. Anyone have any experience with this? Is it something I should have done immediately?

Also, are most engine parts interchangeable with those of the Mercedes SLK320 models? I know it's the exact same thing pretty much aside from the body, but figured I'd ask the question anyway. Thanks all.

If it helps, I've got a 2004 non SRT coupe with 95k on her.

Turn of the tow alarm.

Mechanics often see $$'s not leaks, none on the floor and none behind the tranny on the frame and I'd say you are good.

Yes I'd say all motor parts are interchangeable.

Agreed in all points.
I had a problem with my alarm going off while taking a Ferry last summer read the owners manual and practice using the tow alarm overide as it can be quirky to get set right.

Sometimes, rarely but sometimes, a mechanic will tell the owner about a leak just as a heads up that in the future the leak will worsen. I work on heavy equipment for a living and work for a guy that prides himself with honesty. We really try not to replace anything that is still good, but sometimes you don't have a choice, or the owner is given a choice and performs the repair sooner rather than later as preventative measures. A gasket while its in the shop already is cheaper than a crane hard-downed because the gasket failed completely at the job site and they lose $200 an hour waiting for it to be fixed.

Mine leaks around oil level sending unit but very little. Does your splash guard have oil on it?

Hey all thanks for the speedy answers! I've decided to drive her up to Albany instead of shipping so pending getting a TPS light shut off I'll be good to go. Here's a random question, the shop fixed my trunk latch which wasn't opening but now my key FOB opens all the doors and trunk and gas lid with a single press of the button. Seems to be a programming issue but I haven't found any threads about it. Any ideas?

You mean it unlocks them all at the same time? That is just a simple programming option that can be changed quite easily. Look in your owners manual. As I recall it involves pressing the key fob buttons in a certain order and for a certain length of time.
