Default Side Mirror needs repair

Hello All ---- need some serious help/input. Someone with a big powerful butt must have smashed into my passenger side mirror in a parking lot. Came out and found the mirror semi-dangling. I have the mirror off of the car and it appears that the retainer ring on the inside post that holds the spring in place was broken. Can this one simple little ring be ordered? Plus, it seems as though I would need some sort of spring clamp to compress the spring in order to get the retaining ring back into the groove around the post.

Make any sense? Anyone else out there have a similar problem?

Any input/guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Pony Soldier.

I have the same problem only it's my driver's side mirror. The mirror unit just spins around now although the console operating button is still functional. Dealer quoted $369 for the mirror and $200 for labor. Ouch. I'm thinking magic putty to hold it in place. Just kidding. Anybody know a great source for this part? I'm in Southern California.

If you can't find the parts you need, you may be able to find a mirror here and in the correct color....

Yep. I agree with James1549. I looked on E-bay about 3 weeks ago and found a lot more for sale. Happened to find some in all colors upward of $185 to $200. Finally found a person at a place called Pam's Auto - Great Lakes state somewhere. They advertised the mirror with a picture of a poor wrecked 2004 Coupe -- passenger front side had been absolutely smashed. But they were asking $144.99 so I made them an offer and we settle at $125. Mirror arrived in absolutely mint condition. I bought the passenger side mirror --- maybe they still have the driver side mirror. I also used 3M double stick tape to hold mine in place until repaired. The repair was a cinch. DON'T take off the door panel. Your XFire should have the access plate just below the mirror on the door panel. Hardest part (10 minutes) was running the wiring back through from the outside to the connector. Here's the vendor ------ Side View Mirror Crossfire 942518 04 RGHT Gry PWR Tested GD | eBay

I'm in SoCal, too. Inland Empire. Where are you?

Pony Soldier, I'm in Huntington Beach. And thanks to you and James1549 for the advice. Another question, the part that is mounted to the vehicle is intact but the mirror housing took the brunt of the impact. Is there a way to "rebolt" it??? I don't have a url for the pics but I could send if you inbox me.

I'll keep my eyes out for a driver side mirror. And, you need to post a couple of car photos so I don't have to ask -- what color is your XFire?????

It's white. I think they call it alabaster. The glass mirror, clamp and housing are ok but it was knocked out of whack and just dangles and spins. Note the paper towels I wedged in. Going to try using JB Weld Epoxy Putty to try to hold it in place for now.

Pony,

Find a piece of pipe the same size as the sring, cut the side out such that you can insert the ring through the hole with the pipe comprssing the spring?? It may work..

As far as I can remember to completely remove the mirror you have to remove the inner door panel and disconnect the wires to it and release the grommet.
Then on the outside you turn the mirror to the inner position, this exposes the two Torx screws which undone to release the mirror. This can be seen in the PDF on how to instal the indicating mirrors. This can be found in this sticky post

The sticky post 180 referred to is https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...stallation.pdf

however, I think the door panel removal part is only to run the new wire from the turn signal to the mirror.
Could be wrong, have been before.

By not removing the inner door panel you will have to remove the glass mirror from the mirror body and unclip the push on connectors that are for the heated glass filaments. Removing the glass is easy, maybe a bit scary when you pry it out, shown in the mirror instructions, but you will have to re thread the wires through the mirror body stem again.
I think it is easier to remove the door panel.

I have the glass mirror. I think it's the driver side. I purchased the LED mirrors and Lisa needed the passenger (hers fell out) so I still have one. If interested I'll check to see if it's the driver or passenger side. They are easy to install 4 clips that snap around a center ring.
