Default Change instrument cluster

Hi,

Ever since i bought my crossfire the reset button for the trip meter/odometer or whatever it's called havent worked, today i took it all apart to see if i could check if the connection to that button was bad or something and after i put it back together the fuel guage is stuck, it only manages to move a little because somehow it's resistance to moving got bigger.

Now i can't get it working and the problem with the button is still the same so i'm thinking of just buying a new instrument cluster from ebay.
Is it possible to change it with a used one or is it unique to the car or something like that?

Not certain but the Mercedes cars of the same generation require coding from the dealership. I have a feeling it'll be the same story.

Shouldn't be an issue. I bought one to replace a dash light bulb but haven't gotten a round tuit because my '06 has a knee air bag (and have been too busy). It is just a display so non-critical.

I understand that the dash will work in any Crossfire, all the coding is done to the other parts, mileage is recorded in the ECU and some of this info is backed up in other chips. Rolling the mileage back requires someone with MB computer knowledge and the correct programing tools.

I was waiting for you to answer, I'll get myself a new one from ebay and change it then, typical me finding one broken thing and making it worse..
Thanks everyone

Is any coding at all required for it to work? I found a cluster on ebay with only 100 miles difference from mine so it wont really matter tp me if i dont change it to the correct number.
