Electric DIVERS SEAT

The drivers seat adjustment on my 04 coupe requires the door to be open to operate is this normal or is there a fault?

It is a fault.
The problem is some diodes in the seat relay assembly.
Use search, I know I read about it and as I recall onehundred90 did the article.

On mine, ignition off door open, it works, or ignition on door closed, it works....

I should have mentioned that diodes allow current to flow through them in only one direction, my diode did not allow any current through in any direction but the other diode was fine. You must solder the new diode in the correct orientation. The diodes are marked with a band on the end.
