Default Someone hit my car...

Between Friday at noon and Saturday at 4pm, someone hit the front passenger side quarter panel, about two inches above the wheel. The dent is deep and it cut the paint. Of course, this person did not leave a note, but did leave what looks to be a little white paint behind. The thing is, I park in an assigned spot in a parking garage so I am thinking I might be able to find out who it my car. The dent is really high on the panel, so I'm thinking an SUV, or not that I think of it, when I parked my car on Friday, there was a cargo van parked at the end of the row. Just maybe....

Believe it or not, having my car hit is not what is driving me crazy, it's the fact that I will probably never know who did it and that the coward didn't leave a note. Sorry for my rant, but I just had to get it off my chest.

This may seem a little extreme, but does anyone know of any in car security cameras that I could install? I've been searching the web, but I don't know much about them. Any help would be truly appreciated. Thanks.

That's it, we Crossfire owners should follow the example of Tony Soprano and company, an eye for an eye........Are you suggesting the bat for the car that hit the crossfire, or the owner who left the scene? Just curious if all X-fire owners agree to violence as the answer.

This event reminds me of the time when I was in a plaza where my business is and I was talking to a customer and looking out into the parking lot;

I could see this van hitting the side of a small import, not once but twice. I said to the guy I was with that I wondered if they would stop and leave a note or something. Nope, it didn't happen.
I wrote down the license plate number, just in case they didn't come back.

After finishing with my customer, I wrote out a note to the owner of the import, with the license # included and went out to the import (this was about 15 mins. after the incident). As soon as I walked up to the front of the import, this lady came out of nowhere and gave me the impression that she was leaving a card or something under the wipers and she mentioned that her sunglasses had fallen down and sun was in her eyes or something.

I gave her a positive acknowledgement and went back into my business but I kept the note because I had the feeling that something fishy had just occurred with this women; 5 mins later, I went back and checked the import and the woman had gone but there was no card or anything under the wipers; I figured that would be the case; I left my note as I had originally planned.

Apparently, the women had suspected someone had seen her dent the import, hung around to see if anyone would do something about it and when I showed up, she came out of nowhere on the pretense of her leaving a note.

Needless to say, after talking with the owner of the import later and her getting in touch with police and the womens insurance company, the women probably was not impressed by the over-all outcome.

That's really cool of you. I don't understand how we have such a shortage of nice, decent, and honest people these days.

Someone left a body dent in the rear quarter panel of my car, which I of course ALWAYS park 10 miles away, so - go figure.
But my previous car (an Eclipse) got hit not once, but TWICE without any notes, and I know there were witnesses. The first time was the worst as it was parked parallel with a whole load of other cars and had a car cover on it and someone managed to hit from rear fender well to front fender well....dinged up the WHOLE side of the car. (And this was after keeping the car door ding free for 2 years!) I was beyond livid. Of course no note or anything - and it was getting ready to be sponsored, so I had to have it fixed asap, out of my own pocket of course. Literally one week later some kid skateboarded into the SAME SIDE that had just been repainted and totally dinged it up again. Luckily when I went out to my car and saw it, there were some witness in the apartment complex who came down to tell me what kid it was and helped me find the Mom, as well as call the cops. She strung me along for 2 months and finally paid for it. She started to say how I couldn't prove it was from her kid and that it might've been there already and blah blah blah, and I was just like "Would you like to see the paperwork showing it just go out of the body shop 5 days ago?". Ugh. Talk about a nightmare.

Something to be wary off with the whole "white paint" thing...when a car has a Clear coat on it, which 99% of new cars do, when the clear coat is scratched, it turns white. So unless you can tell that it is actual white paint, unfortunately it might not be a lead. I don't want to bring you down - just give you a heads up.

The kid who skateboarded into my car left huge nasty white marks so the lady tried to say it couldn't have been his board since there's no white on it...besides the 5 witness who saw it. But it has nothing to do with the color of the car (or object) that hits you, unless you can see it's an obvious paint swipe...it might just be the clear coat that's all scraped and turned white. Just someting to keep in mind. I'm sorry to hear it happened

People just don't care. I was in a parking lot waiting for my wife who went to the drug store to get something and a guy let's go of a shopping cart and it runs into my wife's car (she was driving and parked it there). It is a 2002 focus so it's not a beater. I got out of the car and his response "What do you want, I said I was sorry" It wasn't worth my time because the wife's car has nicks in it anyway because she parks it in the closest spot. I always park as far away as possible. Saves aggravation and I need the exercise. The moral of the story "Park it as far away and in a corner as you can".

Wink Re: Someone hit my car...

I remember hearing this story about a guy hitting a real nice car in front of tons of witnesses, getting out and leaving a note for the owner of the car. Thus, everyone was cool with what happened. Unfortunately, when the owner returned, and noticed the damage to his car and the note, he read the note saying, "Everyone here thinks I'm leaving you my name and number, but the truth is I have no intention of paying for this. Better luck next time."

Anyway, the moral of the story is to also read the note.
