Default Evaporator Drain Location / Smell

Greetings all,

Like so many other people, we have the "melted crayon" smell in our 2005 Limited. We have changed the cabin air filter, cleaned profusely, and added air fresheners. No real improvement. I have been looking at the possibility of the evaporator creating the smell and would like to try one of the foaming cleaners. My problem is finding any information about the actual location of the evaporator drain tubes. I have found the drain tubes for the ventilation inlet but not the exit point for the evaporator drain. If I remove the vent cover from the footwell on either side of the tunnel I can feel the tubes. I just don't know exactly where they exit. I am assuming it is in the tunnel above the transmission and exhaust. I haven't crawled underneath the car yet because I don't have ramps and I'm not sure of where to place jack stands safely. If anyone has information about the exit location of the evaporator drain tubes I would really appreciate it. Or if you know where to place jack stands after jacking the car up. Thanks to all!

The smell is said to be the smell of the adhesive used in the carpets I believe.
There is a thread here somewhere on the subject, Woody Waldig was the author I think.
The adhesive smell is not dangerous, Europe demands the use of enviromently friendly adhesives and is ahead of our NA regulations.
The chemicals you use to get rid of the smell are probably more dangerous.

I think it's the headliner. After replacing the headliner in our coupe the smell disappeared.

That is a good point, lots of glue used there, so carpets and headliner.

~~AAAAhhh...there's nothing like the fragrant smell of a box of Crayola Crayons. If you used them in grade school, that was a familiar smell. Sitting in the Crossie with that smell just does something to me....its part of the grin factor I think.

Some smarty pants here once said that if you want to get rid of the Crayola smell you should start dating older girls.

Like they said, there is nothing wrong with your car. That smell is normal in crossfires, and generally, for European cars from that era. The smell can be fixed by bombing your car with a fragrance bomb. Waldig (Woody) did a writeup about tearing apart his autocross car to fix the smell, but it didn't help until he simply infused the car with a new smell.

Waldig did eliminate the smell by replacing the head liner, but I believe it was Valk and later someone else who used the bomb in their car.
