Rear hatch lock sticks

Default Rear hatch lock sticks

When I try to open the rear hatch the latch sticks to the open position I have to manually pull the latch back in order for it to close how can I fix this

Do you have signs of rust around the latch? Maybe some oil squirirted through the licence light hole may cure it.
If there is rust find out what caused it.

There is no visible rust anywhere on my this car

Take the latch out and look at it.

It's easy for road dirt to get into the lock mechanism. Suggest opening the trunk, place a crummy towel across the trunklip to collect drip, and liberally douse it with WD-40 or silicone spray.

I took my latch out and it was quite clean, no sign of dirt.
It has done 36,500 miles. I’ll add a photo of it.

Thanks I will give that a try hope it works I did squirt a little WD-40 up in there but nothing like you're describing

WD40 is a great degreaser and decent short term lubricant. The problem with WD40 is, it will gum up over time (1-2 years). I like to do an initial soaking with WD40 to degrease and then chase it out with a PTFE based lubricant. I usually use Triflow. The teflon base does not gum up overtime.
