Default Crossfire vs 350Z vs RX8

How would you guys compare the rx8, Z and crossfire? I really didn't do it b/c when i saw the crossfire i bought it the same day. I always wondered how these cars stack up, performance luxury and everyday driving. I never found a comparison article. So just wondering how you guys would compare it. I love my crossfire, hate the Z, but have to admit the RX8 was tempting.

I don't know about the 350z but if you really want to appreciate the Xfire go take an RX8 for a test drive. I did before I decided on the Xfire. It made my decision a no brainer.

I also test drove a RX8. There are three different models and to get the handling and performance you have to buy the top of the line or you get a dull sports car. The RX8 doesn't ride as nice and the interior is claustrophobic even with the extra room in the back. The Crossfire has the looks and options all in one package (the 2004 model). To get the same in a 2005 you have to buy the Limited.

Performance Wise 350z>Crossfire=Rx-8

I think the rx-8 sux all together personally. One car i would not rather have than the crossfire is rx-8.

Well, as long as you get the manual transmission, you'll have the more powerful engine. I dunno if the high-end "Shinka" model is really worth it or not (supposedly minor suspension tweaks). The trim levels were different when I bought mine last year (I got all the engine and suspension goodies, but cloth interior, no nav, etc.).

I know nothing about the Crossfire except for it's existence (which is why I just joined - to learn about your car), so I can't compare the two. I can say that if you're into brute power and bragging rights, the RX-8 is not for you. On the other hand, if you appreciate a near-religious experience of "becoming one" with your car, you'll love it. With the 50/50 weight distribution, and all the weight being low and centered (it's a mid-engine car), the handling is incredibly nimble. Some live for that sorta feeling, some couldn't care less.

The mileage does stink. I get 18mpg in mixed driving. With the small tank, I'm looking for fuel every 220 miles or so.

The oil consumption is indeed normal for a rotary (it's not burned, it's injected to lube/seal the apex seals). It's only around 1/2 quart per 3000 miles or so. It's not gonna break anyone's bank account.

it's not really a "mid-engine car", though rotaries are known to sit much lower than piston-driven engines, and IIRC the engine does sit aft of the front axle... front-mid maybe?

LOL, sure, I can live with that: "The Renesis sits 1.6 inches lower and 5.5 farther back behind the front wheels, compared with the last front mid-engine RX-7" - Motor Trend

Our crossfires were never compared with the RX-8 or 350Z if you've read in most car magazines but rather it is compared with the Audi TT, Z4 and the Porsche Boxster. DC / Mercedes never wanted the crossfire to be a track car the fact that they reduced the HP from what it had from the concept crossfire. Mercedes is more in luxury, comfort and safety and that's what we inherited from the SLK 320 platform.

More HP or speed is an ownership option to go to reliable tuners like Renntech, Lorinser, Kleemann and Startech. The engine is not meant for over the counter upgrades from Pep Boys or AutoZone and that's what makes our crossfires better than most American and Japanese automobiles because we have a reliable engine that's been tested through time.
