Default Huge Problem missing key

Good morning,

You guys are my last hope. I really hope there is a solution to this problem.
I lost my only key to my 2004 crossfire. The dealership says the keys are no longer being made. They have switched suppliers. The new provider is out of stock until October. I have even checked online to no avail and contacted local locksmiths. Any suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

I can get into the car because the passenger door lock hasn't worked in awhile. Unfortunately, can't get into the trunk.

Thanks in Advance

The link below contains a major supplier to the Crossfire Forum, NEEDSWINGS and they can supply you with a key. You will need to supply them with your VIN# in order to program the key to your Crossfire.
Good Luck.....

Thanks for the speedy reply. They are also out of stock until October. How can this be possible?

Do a search here on forum. There is an easy way to open the locked trunk thru the license plate lights . Maybe your key is in there.

There are a number of posts on ways to get into your trunk. Look at the sticky at: Trunk lid jammed
Or, type this into the google search window and you'll get a bunch of hits on how to get into the trunk....or click on the link below: crossfireforum.org/forum: trunk locked
opening trunk

That's crazy that no keys are available until October.

I found a Mercedes Benz supplier that looks like they have "blank" keys without batteries, which is the same type of key used in our Crossfires. I would give them a call, WITHOUT mentioning this is for a Crossfire, and verify that it is a complete key, without batteries or programmed for a specific car. If they ask you for a VIN#, give them this, it is a 2003 Mercedes Benz SLK32 VIN: WDBKK66F33F276657 . Their phone # is 845-624-1500.
Try this.....

The only issue I see with the complete swap out is, if you live in a state where a smog test is required, I believe the computer reads the vin # from the ECU and will think it is a different vehicle. I think they do this so you cannot pass a smog test for another vehicle. I don't know if they can be reprogrammed to your vehicle? This may be an issue also in stated with safety inspections.

Suggest you reach out to Moore2575, he posted recently a source in the Naperville IL area that had keys and programming capability at a reasonable price. I have no confirmation that this is true or not. Send him a PM and he may be able to hook you up.
Best of luck.

Let me try to add something to his confusion . . . Can't you just push the unlock button on the center stack to unlock everything including the trunk??

I have same problem I was replacing the flip key case from ( EBAY ) and dropped the dam key and it went into 10 pieces on a black driveway and the transponder is gone I vacuumed swept and looked until my eyes hurt in the hot sun . I have one working key now I have looked at needs wings and remotesandkeys.com Needs wings want $685 I think and remotesandkeys.com want $485. OMG the keys are worth more than the car. Also if you but those cheap Ebay flip keys they do not hold up and need to be glued with epoxy I used contact cement and it popped all apart so just a warning . Now my only option is to tear apart my good key fob to remove the only transponder out and glue to ignition ring to use other cut keys but if I loose the 2nd transponder I am screwed . As time goes buy the Crossfire and many Mercedes are going to the scrap heap over a key issue unless someone can bypass the skreem all together and those who have pristine Crossfires the price will go up on these cars value but these cars can fail as well over time. and since my crossfire is a high mileage weekend driver I bought unloved cheap is not worth investing $700 for a key I read these keys will be discontinued by Mercedes soon and they are remaking them for a short time so they can charge what they want. I am now thinking fo selling this car due to expensive repairs . You would think Mercedes would offer a cheap alternative to those who love these cars. I also own a 2013 Mustang with transponders and I bought aftermarket flip keys like the crossfire and I was able to reprogram aftermarket keys easily with with a few turns of the switch and a few buttons pressed of the remote . I have 2 original Mustang keys and 2 aftermarket keys . Why can we do this on the Crossfire . The value on the Crossfires has plummeted due to the expensive costs to repair it. I hope someone comes up with a fix thanks

You have had your car for ten months, you said you got it cheap because it had problems, high mileage and filthy under the hood, it obviously had not been cared for and you complain that the repairs are expensive. Anyone buying a car like that could expect repairs to be needed so why complain?
Any car you purchased would be the same expense if it was in that condition. You either buy a car that has been cared for and repaired as and when needed or one like yours where you have to catch up on maintenance. I cannot think of any car maker offering a cheap alternative available that cuts into their profit margin, Mercedes cut the umbilical cord a long time ago, Chrysler is not the company it was and Fiat does not give a red cent for the Crossfire woes.
If you try to sell it here we know you value the car for less than a new key.😉

Thanks for the love !! . I was trying to fix something and it broke just looking for a reasonable repair not a sarcastic comment of what I bought and what I paid for it and what condition it was maybe I should have not divulged so much info about car I am sure I am not the only one who bought a cheap car and how long I owned it . I thought this forum was a nonjudgemental forum but guess its not :. When I have read so many got key fobs much cheaper than they offer now. I was reading tons of responses and post today till I got a headache. The car was coming along as I was doing repairs as I could afford. Yes I bought a cheap $1700 Crossfire a car I always wanted with 2 working remotes and doing a repair myself was a bad idea with a cheap ebay key fob case and I warned others to make sure they secure it with glue and I asked a few questions to other owners maybe I could find a cheap way guess there is no such way. I am a senior citizen on fixed income trying to enjoy a car I always wanted and could not afford new or even half way nice. The crossfire I got now is running like a champ and its all cleaned up and looking half way nice now I have it , so its not the dog I bought . Thanks for your support !!

No problem, at $1,700 you are lucky you got two keys. I have a Chinese fob and it has been no trouble I guess you were unlucky.

Yes guess I am unlucky. Called stealership in Maryland they said they would do a discount on key fob at $457 plus tax. I called the one Chrysler stealership that a few mentioned in Canada at $150 they do not ship to USA. So guess living in this USA is not so good a place to live. Everything going up in price everyday . and I did not vote for the redheaded devil

I heard a rumour that the red headed devil owns the rights to make Crossfire keys and SKREEMs. It reminds me of the guy who purchased the rights to some drug and then upped the price tenfold or more.
The keys were expensive before and now they are extortionate. We just have to figure out a way around this situation, surely there is some smart guy or gal here that knows this stuff. Maybe we need to bring in the Chinese, they can copy anything.
