So I was driving yesterday morning on a trip of about 45 minutes to a job interview of all things when my crossfire basically lost engine power going down the interstate. I was traveling about 70mph and felt what seemed to be a bump in the road or something but there wasn't one. As soon as that happened, though, it was if my engine was steadily losing power. Within 90 seconds or so I was holding the gas pedal all the way down and was barely able to maintain 45-50 mph. My initial reaction was thinking maybe a belt had come off or something, so I managed to find somewhere to pull off and check it and everything looked okay at a glance. I got back in the car and cranked it again and everything seemed fine. Considering I had a job interview less than 30 minutes from this point in time, I just decided to try to continue on my way.

However, after a few more minutes back on the interstate the same issue occurred except this time I seemed to retain more control over the engine and could keep it somewhere near the pace of the other cars on the interstate, but when I would reach around 60mph the engine would shake pretty hard. So I pulled off again into a fast food parking lot where the engine still was shaking hard. I cut off the car and looked at the engine again and could see no visible problems. After letting it sit for 90 seconds or so I tried my luck once more and my car started up without issue and made it the rest of the way to my interview without any problems. After my interview I made the 45 minute drive back without a problem then either. I also had to run some errands around town later in the day and had no issue with it then, although the check engine light remains on.

What research I have done into this seems to suggest this is likely one of the more common problems with the car related to the oxygen sensors or the crankshaft position sensor, or possibly even a fuel pump issue. I am definitely not sure, though, which is why I am making this post. I should also mention this seems very similar to the RCM problem many people have had, including myself. However, I had my RCM repaired by the forums own Tighed1 (I hope that is spelled correctly) and have had no issues with it since. I pulled the RCM out earlier to check it and all of the solders seemed to be fine, so I do not think that is the issue. I have hesitated taking it to a local auto shop hoping someone might could help me diagnose the problem here. Thank you in advance for any input!

 

Do you know what codes triggered the CEL?

 

So I just went into town to get a diagnostic tool in the car after plugging the computer back in from where I checked the RCM this morning and everything seemed to be fine. The check engine light even went off and has not come back on. I got home with my new diagnostic tool and scanned it twice. Both times it said there were no codes to give. However, I checked it with a borrowed diagnostic tool a few weeks ago just out of curiosity and it gave me back the code for oxygen sensors. I cant remember the code off hand but I am almost certain it was P0141. That is why part of me suspects the oxygen sensors have been causing my issue.

 

I do not think the O2 sensors would cause that problem, maybe a catalytic problem? Just my thoughts.

 

That is an O2 heater sensor failure indication - meaningless in the context of your complaint. If that was the code, I"m not sure it has ANYTHING to do with the symptom.
But since you are not sure, who knows....

I'm thinking MAF or Throttle body. We had a member in Georgia with a car that was acting up like this - a new throttle body fixed it. THe car would hardly idle, it would run and kind of keep up with traffic, but barely. Some days, it would run fine. This went on for at least three weeks. Finally, one of us changed her TB with a spare he had. FIXED.
Her TB was really insane, you'd turn the key to "ON" and the TB would sit there making noises constantly, it could not decide where to position the butterfly with the engine not running!
