And ... here comes rita ...
If the Louisiana disaster was not bad enough a few weeks ago as most have taken refuge to Houston ... now we have what seems to be a bigger problem with rita as it is projected to rip through Galveston and Houston! It has achieved a Category 5 status with current 160 mph winds = good race for the crossfire
I, like most, really have no where to go but stand our ground. It has been predicted that once it makes landfall it should lower strength to a possible category 3 as it will still have to travel about 80 miles to reach us in Houston. The path of this hurricane is not definite, as it can move farther North or South and become less of a danger! I have secured the Crossfire in the garage and will be boarding up the windows to the house tomorrow! Any one else going to possibly go through this as well? ! I will report back the end results as soon as I can ... GOOD LUCK to all whom may be adversely affected!
Wow - I've never experienced a hurricane first-hand, but I have to say I'm surprised that you would choose to stay; especially considering the damage and destruction of Katrina. No one can accurately predict mother nature when it comes to these hurricanes.
We'll be thinking about you and hope you stay safe out there. Let us know that you made it out okay when it's possible.

It sure makes earthquakes seem so small and trivial, think it will increase the real-estate prices in california and other non weather issues areas more enticing? Think the longest earthquake I experienced was about two minutes.
For the past 3 days, all major city exits (freeways) have been gridlocked with non moving traffic and all or most gas stations in Houston are out of gas (it is just surreal). For these unfortunate reasons I have no choice but to stay. I know that there will be alot of unfortunate people who will be still in the mess of traffic when the hurricane starts its turbulent path through - I can only pray for them! My only ounce of luck is feeding from a slight easterly drop point from where it was initially predicted, thus putting us on the west (cleaner) side of the turmoil. I wish only the best of luck to all who may be in my position or even worse!
We had a minimal hurricane a few years ago, Isabel and it was pretty darn wild. We maybe had 60 mile an hour winds for about 4 hours and huge amounts of rain. Lots of tree damage and power out for 2 days. I can't imagine what Texas is in store for.
X-LR8 - good luck and wish you all the best.

As luck has been on my side = the hurricane dropped farther east than expected. It ripped through the border of Louisiana and Texas sparing us in Houston. We received at max 40 - 60 mph winds and not really any rain at all! The electricity went out for a while but not much else negative to report. All that I can say is that my prayers were answered! The Crossfire remained safe in the garage and is ready to drive as soon as gas becomes available in the next few days. To those whom have never gone thru a Hurricane, I hope that you never will = it is a scary act of nature that is so unpredictable! Thanks for all your prayers and concerns in this thread!
That was a close one. I live in Houston and was very afraid it was heading right for us. For a while it looked that way. I boarded up my house and garage. I just got my new crossfire last week, so that you have been a terrible to lose it just after a week. We got lucky. Now I'm just glad it gets good MPG, because there are still a lot of places without gas here.
