Two weeks ago I bought a 2004 Crossfire demo with 1000 kms on it. I love the car. I have noticed though that the car is sounding noisier above 3000 RPMs than when I first bought it. When I first started driving the car, the car sounded very smooth accelerating above 3000 RPMs but now when I accelerate above 3000 RPMs it is noisier, slightly tinny sounding. Could this be a result of a change in fuel? I drove the car off the lot with a full tank of gas, but I don't know what kind of gas the dealer put in the car; they may have filled it up with regular unleaded gas. I've been putting premium gas in it since then. Maybe the sound the car makes now is normal with the higher octane gas. Any ideas? The car itself still performs great -- no change there -- and the oil level/condition is fine... no instruments indicating any issues either.

 

My son said, the same thing about my car at lunch today. ??? I have just about 1,000 miles on mine now. I haven't noticed too much change but what do I know? After 3 or 4 AC/DC concerts my hearing is shot anyway. Enjoy your car!

I noticed something similar as well. I just think its because, I'm getting to know the car better and I'm driving it harder than when I first got it.

 

55 and going to AC/DC concerts, what a cool older dude you are!

 

Check your hatch and make sure its not loose. I bought mine used and it was really loud because it was loose and the bump stops ate up the paint. Just pull up on it when it is shut and if it moves that might be the problem.

 

Thanks Aero Blue but I wasn't 55 when the damage was done, I was in my late 20's and I worked for Atlantic Records doing pop promotion in Baltimore, Washington/Maryland and Virginia. I still love em though, was in the music business for 30 years. I'm in my second career now far away from the music biz.

Thanks folks for your comments on what turned out to be a non-issue. Engine and exhaust system all check out fine, and (according to my service garage) the engine noise is normal... I am just driving the car harder now so I didn't notice the true sound of the car initially. Apparently I have one of the few Crossfires in Ottawa. It's not exactly the most appropriate car given our potentially severe winter conditions! I like that it's unique though -- turns a lot of heads!
