Default ignition key sometimes hard to turn

Hi Everyone,

This is my first time posting but I have read a lot of threads and found this forum most informative.

There are times when I go to start my crossfire that the key is very hard to turn and I am afraid that one of these times I am going to break the key off in it. Has anyone else experienced this?

It doesn't happen all the time just occasionally. I am considering taking it to the dealer and having them look at it. The problem is that since it doesn't happen everytime, what will they do about it and will it be covered under my warranty. Any feedback would be greatly welcomed.

Thanks,
Sherri

turn your steering wheel a little when you turn the key. if its 'locked', the key may be hard to turn.

Exactly...I had the same issue and the wheel turn fixed it every time...

Thanks, sometimes the right answer can be oh so simple. I'm glad I came here first instead of going to the dealer.

Cool Re: ignition key sometimes hard to turn

Our Crossfire was doing that also, but tonight even when we turned the steering wheel a little it still would not turn, we had to call to have some one come out but it wont be till Monday... Anyone know why it wont turn at all, the light on the central locking system was flashing, could that have anything to do with it? HELP>>>>lol...

The battery could be dead in the fob, I think if the battery dies you can't start the car.

I think that's true. As far as I can remember, if you get a new key you have to get it reprogrammed and not just recut... That's what makes it expensive. Try replacing the batteries.

Another point on the ignition key switch itself... If you turn it to the 'run' mode and leave it there for more than a minute or two, you will NOT be able to turn it to the 'start' position without first turning the key back to the 'off' position. This is a safety feature to prevent the 'starter grinding' I sometimes hear people with newer cars do when they think the engine is off when it's already running.

Just an FYI.
