Question Delorean 2, crossfire 1

I was out sunday all day in my Xfire, from as far east as San Gabriel CA, and all the way to UCLA on the westside.

I saw 2 Delorean DMC1, one red, one back-to-future color,
and my lonesome in the Crossfire...

What's up guys, no one drives their Xfire in socal?

'Been there for 2 weeks last Christmas, I didn't see one! Saw 2 Lambo's, 3 Bentley's, bunch of 350z's and Lotuses! No crossfires.

There's a few crossfire owners here in So Cal.

Let's see... there's me, HDDP, you, Dan Root, Nigel, and my neighbor that i just met tonight that asked me how i liked my car because she's got one too.

Now how about we all go to ButtonWillow on Feb 4th?

just google'd it; i didn't know they were available red from the factory. i figure it was someone who just molested it -- or 'chh' really saw a Bricklin he thought was a delorean.

Sure. Though i'm still waiting on the weather to see if its not going to be raining. If not, i'm actually signing up for the novice class. After running Laguna Seca, i've been looking forward to running a track again.

AT least you guys see some crossfires. I have the ONLY 6 speed roadster on island. There are a total of 8 in Hawaii, and supposedly 3 of them are on the outer islands...there are 3 at the windward dealer and 1 at the downtown dealer.

the only one I ever see is the warranty department manager's (white limited coupe), a Black SRT roadster (seen once), and there is rumor of one other on the leeward side, but I never go out there.

Enjoy seeing them when you can.

BTW: Has anyone ever seen a crossfire commercial?

i have seen a bright red delorean as well in the past. here is a pic of a black one. but i think all were aftermarket paint jobs.

but here is a link to a red one...(with so-called factory paint).

I just got an e-mail from the coordinator of The Racer Factory events, It seems they have had a very low sign-up rate for the weekend of Feb 4th & 5th at Buttonwillow, (15 cars) probably because of the SuperBowl. He needs 40 cars to break-even on the rental of the track and may have to cancel the weekend event. He said he would notify me by tomorrow.

The (possible) good news is that if the track is vacant on Sat. Feb. 4th, I may be able to convince Les (the track owner) to let us do a "testing" day. That would mean we would pretty much have the track to ourselves. (usual charge for "testing" is $75 per car).

I have to drive up there anyway, since I scheduled a dyno run ($45) at the race shop on Saturday.

I'll keep you guys posted as soon as Rich Barker lets me know if the event is a go, or no go...

I didn't know they came red either, but this one has very nice paint. I am sure it was probably repaint. But did see the DMC in the front. Don't know if anyone would purposely place the DMC on their grill.

I've seen a few of them painted since you can't exactly "fill" dents and retain that polished sheet-metal look. Even painted, they still look pretty sweet, if you're into that 80's crap.

not a respray, but a rare factory option, according to this article: http://www.motorcities.com/contents/...312411858.html

NXMX5, I'm about 99.89% sure the Delorean factory in Ireland did not have any "painting" facilities on its premises.
When you ordered the car, if you actually wanted it to be painted, it was performed here in the states. Usually at the dealers own paint shop.
If you re-read the web site that you posted, it says it was an "option". But it doesn't say it was a "factory" option.
Its stainless steel body panels, and "gull wing" doors was the Deloreans claim to fame. Unfortunately, it didn't have much else going for it.

Except for a lot of cocaine stuffed in the door panels when they were shipped over... LOL

As a huge fan of the De Lorean the answer is no. De Lorean's never came painted and it was never an factory option either. It was a dealer option to try and get them sold after the company went into receivership in '82. However, John De Lorean was in deed tampering with DUPONT paints on stainless steel to eventually offer it as a factory option but that never happened, neither did the Legend Industries contract to offer a factory turbo version of the car which would have probably helped the car since it was underpowered for its competition.
