ipod interface with OEM radio
Can anyone advise on an Ipod interface that works with the original radio (Coupe Limited) Infinity system. I've searched all the obvious ones and all seem to skip the crossfire.
I dunno if this works... www.formymercedes.com
MP3 Adapter

The Bipes Automotive Portable MP3 Adapter allows you to connect your portable MP3 player or other portable audio device directly into your Mercedes Bose sound system.
* Plug and play – no cutting or splicing required.
* Clean, clear sound with no fading or interference as with FM modulators.
* Easy to use – no switches, tuning, or adjustments.
* No visible parts (except the MP3 audio cable). Stock appearance is retained.

After talking with soundlabs engineer, he believes this is only compatible with the bose system but not 100%
Anyway, the Crossfire Infinity radio uses a fibre optic CD Changer, hence is incompatible with anything other than the factory units. There is no auxiliary input either, this function is only available on after market Becker units.

The guys at Al & Eds Autosound said no way to a straight ipod interface... no Aux out plus the fiber optic cable... their best solution was an alpine head unit... its sweet, but pricey...

I was also looking at a Pioneer head unit but they reckon the interface us poor (doesn't show all the search functions the way an alpine one does).

I have the Alpine but I don't like it because it don't match the silver trim. I'm planning of replacing it with a Pioneer DEH-P9600MP and CB-IB100 iPod interface adapter since the trim matches our silver dash and console.

The best way is to use one of the new Becker Mexico iPod radios with the iPod interface:

However if you are keeping the existing radio, then a FM modulator would be the only way that I know of to make it work. It is also the cheapest and doesn't need any installation.
