Default CROSSFFIRE became a SUV/ATV in NYsnow!!!

Although i had faith in the X, i must admit i had apprehension in the way the X would respond to the 2.5+ feet of snow.

1. i park on the street so the X was subjected to a blanket of 6 feet of snow due to wind drifts and the snow plowing every hour.

2. At 1200a when the snow stopped i shoveled around the perimeter of the X so that we could access the doors, and a path at the rear as i knew backing her out would be a better shot.

3. i started her right up without any problem... ran the engine for 1/2 hour... then went to sleep.

4. in the morn... she was covered by a bit of snow and so was the ground that i shoveled the night before. i brought a large (MOVING) blanket to place under rear pass tire...not really 4 traction but to actually create a buffer from the rims slamming up against curb and getting chewed up. this car loves to slide right... even in rain.

5. people... she backed right out smoothly.

6. the rest of the day the X frolicked thru - out manhattan... up and down and back on the FDR... the major deegan (87) up and down hills... some steep 80 footers at 30 degree angles... and all with the stock tires...

7. this day she became my SNOWXBOARD...

PS... with spoiler deploying at 60... the car started to buffet as ice was on the trail edge of the spoiler!!! the higher the speed the more radical the buffet... i pulled over to clear the ice... and the situation was resolved... i felt like a test pilot... outstanding!!!

Wow! That sounds like a great time. Except for the shoveling out part. Ya gotta love that Crossfire.

I appreciate your enthusiasm but ...
2 1/2 ft. of snow with stock tires - are we talking about the same crossfire?
Perhaps but I am just a bit skeptical.

I would guess that xfire1 was running the Conti's and not the PS2's...

It's not like he drove through the 2 1/2 ft. of snow. I'm assuming he drove through the snow covered - cleared - roads...

I drove yesterday morning... and the snow-covered roads triggered the ESP systems. Man, was I impressed. The car didn't slide too much. It kind of corrected itself.

Not a bad drive in the snow at all.

Please let us know if you have the Conti's or Pilots. I've driven them both (on different xfire's) and found the Pilots to be a lot worse in traction and ride quality than the Continental All Seasons for winter. I'm in northern Ohio and drive my 300M in the "bad" weather. This is important information for those who don't have another car for winter driving.

Actually we got a lot of snow here in CT and the Xfire is actually fine as long as you don't bog it in a snow incline. I got a little traction problem on a hill and my tires where IN the snow and I had to rock a little to get going.

But other than that she has been great.

Back in 2004, around Christmas, a snowstorm came through Ohio dumping over a foot of snow on the ground. During the tail end of that storm, I was forced to drive my Crossfire home from Dayton to Cincinnati - about 50 miles on Interstate 75.

The trip home was a real white-knuckle affair - cars off the road everywhere, blinding snow, the whole deal. The trip took 2 hours, but the Crossfire made it when a lot of other cars didn't. The stock Continentals, traction control, and stability control did their jobs exactly the way they were designed to do.

I don't think it's something I ever want to do again, but the car exceeded my expectations in a real ugly situation. Don't underestimate the Crossfire's bad weather driving ability. It'll get you home when a lot of other cars won't.

I live in wisconsin, got a 6 spd with ps2 tires, and I can't even drive this thing when there is just a dusting of snow. The traction is terrible. Even with weight in the back, starting from a stop is a battle even in 2nd gear.

Could it be the tires?
Reading this post it seems there are vastly different opinions as to the crossfires ability in snow.
I love her but she is worthless in snow.
I have ps2 stock and unless i have forward momentum, i can not get up even the slightest incline (my driveway).
Yes, i have been driving ny east coast winters for awhile and know how to drive in them.
I did drive to Boston after a snow storm and once up to speed was ok but lost rubber to road on any patches.

I am really glad that all that snow went south of us for a change. We didn't get any snow here in upstate New York. I don't run my Xfire in winter, couldn't get anywhere if I did, to many hills. That is why they make 4WD. And let us not forget the salt that is put on the road, not good for car.

Snow tires for sale!

If you are tired of slipping around in the snow, I have a set of snows on rims for sale in the Parts/Accessories for Sale section. Thanks for your consideration. Nick Bade

people no-BS this car (the X) had a commanding performance from westchester NY to NYC and back... twice that day... i would not steer fellow xfire drivers in the wrong & dangerous direction.

we all have the same car...more or less... next time it snows i will bring out my camcorder and film it like HDDP... pics worth a thousand words i guess...

cheers
j.

I waxed mine in the garage while the snow came down here (DC area). I wont take mine out unless the streets are plowed. Fortunately they came Sunday morning and fortunately this time we got the better end of the storm. I drove mine to work Monday.
