Received a formal confirmation from Fontana Lodge yesterday for our reservation next April. Hadn't seen one of these before from the lodge. Nice touch!
Here is a nice route that we were going going to Drive on Sunday last time, but we didn't have it mapped out, so we just went on the Cherohala again. This looks nice as an alternative for a sunday drive, probably a bit more aggressive, as there are more "bendies", but it looks like fun:
from:Fontana Village, NC to:Tapoco Rd/US-129 S to:W Hwy 19/US-19 N/US-74 E to:US-19 N/US-74 E to:Bryson City Rd/N Carolina 28 S to:Great Smoky Mountains Expy/US-441 N/US-74 W to:Fontana Village, NC - Google Maps
Thanks to Evan for his input on this.
If I go, maybe I could lead a group with this route on Sunday or Saturday for that matter. I will not be sure if I am going or not till the last minute. I may end up sleeping in the car - LOL

Just as Itsky commented above, this stretch is often times as liked by bikers & sports car clubs as The Dragon Run. It only adds 50-60 miles to our normal Southern Route. We'd be back at Fontana Lodge around 4:30 -5:00 PM for the CICCI-sponsored BBQ event. I included a 20 min stop in Franklin for gas and 90 min in Robbinsville for lunch/gas. (Note: The summary statistics assumed a "spirited" driving profile. After all, we are XFires!)

This will be the new route designated for Saturday.
Just means lunch in Robbinsville will be a little bit later.
