About the event:
Enjoy the accommodations at the Baymont Hotel in the beautiful mountains of Southwestern Virginia. Enjoy meeting other members and experience some incredible driving in groups around the Blue Ridge Mountains.

This initial get-together (GTG) is for drivers of all skill levels and driving interests. The focus will be on having a relaxed weekend and driving some crooked roads revealing the geography of “Moonshine Country” and why the making of moonshine was so widespread. Depending on the attendance level, there may be an opportunity for more than one group. In that event, we will need a volunteer group leader(s) to lead some pre planned routes. Please indicate if you would like to lead a group.

Please make your reservations directly to:

BAYMONT BY WYNDHAM ROCKY MOUNT
1730 N MAIN ST
ROCKY MOUNT, VA 24151 US
Phone: (540)489-4000
Email: baymontinn.rockymont@gmail.com
Confirmation Number: 88597EC008013

We have a block of rooms set aside for our group. Room Rate is $65 per night + taxes (approx $10).
Just call (540) 489-4000 and ask for the reservations desk.
Tell them your booking with the "Crossfires in Moonshine Country Group" to be certain to get our reduced group rate.
Reservations must be made by April 30 to get a room at our group rate.

Set your GPS to: 1730 N MAIN ST ROCKY MOUNT, VA 24151 US
This will bring you directly to the Baymont Hotel.

Nothing formal yet. Depends on the number of people. Most of the runs I posted will visit either a winery, brewery, or distillery. All will include a lunch stop. There should be time for individually exploring. This is my first time trying to organize one of these. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Great. I just made my reservations as well. Happy to chat and provide some suggestions. One thing I would suggest is setting up a meet up place and time on day 1 and day 2. It could be the hotel lobby for a specific time on Friday and then on Saturday. At minimum at least people will know where to hitch up. I'd also suggest collecting mobile numbers so group text messages with updates could be sent out while we are on site.

By the way, we will plan on arriving on Friday likely about mid day or late morning and then leaving Sunday.

Interesting GTG. We lived in Blacksburg, VA for 4+ years back in early 1980', so the locale is somewhat familiar to us. Marked this on our calendar and will consider attending.

Looking for something a little different? Check this out. Located about 30 miles South of Roanoke, VA. Lots of potential runs, great rate on hotel rooms, not overrun by other events, opportunity to drive some amazing back roads.

We will be using GMRS radios to communicate as we make our runs in the mountains. Good quality hand held units will work, but they don't
have much range and are difficult to manage when driving. Mark Christopher has done an outstanding job of locating a very good radio at a reasonable price of around $100.00. they are available at many locations (Lowe's Home Improvement, Crutchfield, Amazon, EBay and other vendors). Google Midland MXT 105. Go to the Crossfire Forum, Post 5 for info about the radio.

This is the radio used at Crossfire GTGs

Thanks for signing up. I am working on a couple of run options for Saturday. Don't know how many will be there, so I'm waiting a few days to post the runs. Looking forward to seeing you again.
