CANCELED - Woodward Dream Cruise - August 14, 15 2020 - Michigan
I received the registration form in today's mail.
I got mine yesterday as well and I encourage you to register by mail with the form you received as the online registration isn't working correctly now and it was difficult for the parking organizer to track those registrations last year because it is run by the City of Royal Oak and not the parking organizers
Here is the mail version that is being sent to several of us
Feel free to print this document to register now

Going to try to come up this year Valk. I have to confirm some working dates to see if I can make two days. I will get back to you soon. I’ll probably drive the coupe.
My wife and I are going to cancel Woodward this year. I am a numbers guy and today, they don't look good at all and getting worse everywhere. Let's all take care of ourselves so we are alive and can attend in 2021. We have waited this long. Please remove us from the list, parking was a nonrefundable deposit we didn't make and we are cancelling our room reservations. We hope we are wrong.
Latest update today in the Detroit Free Press
If you have already sent a check for parking no worry ....
I have been in contact with Sandy and she has been holding ALL the checks and will be returning them if indeed the event cancels
As of now it hasn't yet been canceled

FYI - I saw this today in an email from Hagerty Insurance. Michael Lary held out hope, but the community events surrounding the 2020 Woodward Dream Cruise will not be held as planned. The Cruise itself? That’s another matter entirely.
“Is the Woodward Dream Cruise canceled?” the Dream Cruise board president asked, repeating the question. “We plan events around the Cruise, not the other way around. So if people want to cruise, they’ll cruise—and I’m sure they will. But the community events surrounding the Cruise, those are canceled.”
Several Detroit-area communities along Woodward Avenue announced that they will not hold cruise-related activities on August 15, the scheduled date of the event. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the health risks are just too high.
“We’re making a decision for hundreds of thousands of people,” Lary told the Free Press. “But we’re doing it for the right reason.”
Nine cities take part in the Cruise each year. Earlier this week, Birmingham community leaders voted 7-0 in favor of a resolution to cancel the event, and Huntington Woods leaders followed suit with a 5-0 vote. Ferndale will discuss the issue next week, and Lary is the city’s events manager.
On May 1, Lary told Hagerty that canceling events surrounding the Dream Cruise would be a hasty decision, and he had hoped to wait until the end of June before announcing changes. It appears, however, that the decision is being made for him.
“Trust me, this is one of those things you lose sleep over at night,” Lary said three weeks ago. “We don’t want to rush into a decision that will disappoint enthusiasts, nor one that will make promises we can’t deliver.”
Earlier today he told the Free Press, “Believe me, I’m not happy”—but, as Lary clarified to Hagerty, he intended that phrase to communicate his disappointment.
“A lot of car events and festivals are being wiped out this year, obviously because of the coronavirus,” Lary says. “You don’t want to be the one that goes ahead with it and then something [negative] happens. We need to respect each other’s space.”
Lary isn’t alone in his disappointment that the Cruise won’t be the full-blown event it usually is. However, as the Free Press reported, many businesses and homeowners on Woodward are thrilled to see Dream Cruise events canceled because of all the noise and congestion that comes with them—and not just on the day of the event, but during the week leading up to it.
The Woodward Dream Cruise, which was first held in 1995 as a small fundraiser in Ferndale, bills itself as “the world’s largest one-day celebration of classic car culture.” Under normal circumstances, it attracts upwards of 1.5 million visitors annually and more than 40,000 vehicles from the U.S. and around the world.
According to the Free Press, Birmingham City Manager Joe Valentine said a message needs to be sent “to tell people from outside Detroit and Michigan not to come.” Birmingham Police Chief Mark Clemence added, “There’s not a single police chief along the Dream Cruise route that wants this to take place.”
The reality is, as Lary predicted in our May 1 interview, diehards will still flock to Woodward—a public road—on August 15. “Cruisers are going to cruise,” he said then, and he hasn’t changed his tune. “You could say we’re going retro. The Cruise will be like it used to be.”

ATTENTION ALL
THIS YEARS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELED
I received a call from Sandy this morning regarding our parking in Memorial Park
The city of Royal Oak contacted Sandy and notified her they are keeping the park closed this year due to COVID-19
There will be NO parking allowed anywhere along Woodward ave this year and no sponsors or vendors will be there either
If you have paid for parking Sandy will be returning your check as she has held them waiting to find out if the city of Royal Oak would be allowing us to park and accepting payments
If you paid for a parking permit online the city of Royal Oak will be refunding you your full parking fee
About the only thing expected to be happening this year at Woodward will be people cruising on Woodward but there will be nobody parked along Woodward and no place to stand and be a spectator
With all these restrictions there would be nowhere for us to gather together or park our Crossfires during the day therefore the event has been canceled for this year and we hope to see you next year and a new thread will be created in the beginning of 2021 to re-organize next years event
Obviously it is up to each and everyone of you if you want to cancel your reservation or still choose to stay at the Marriott and make the most of this event in any way you can individually
I personally will be canceling my reservation today
My best to you all and try to enjoy your summer to the fullest and stay well

An email I received today from the city of Royal Oak
All,
Effective Monday, June 15, 2020, the city of Royal Oak in accordance with the Board of the Woodward Dream Cruise has announced to officially
cancel our car show at Memorial Park scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2020.
This decision to cancel was due to the continued challenges caused by Covid-19
We had fully anticipated this to be another year packed with cars, automotive exhibits and many other events that partake on this day.
The decision to cancel was not easy.
The health and wellness of the public, our residents and our staff has been and will continue to be our #1 priority.
The City of Royal Oak’s Recreation Department apologizes for any inconvenience this may have.
We encourage everyone to practice safe and healthy measures recommended by the Centers for Disease Control, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and the Oakland County Health Division.
We will continue to work to come back and provide the same services as most of you expect and come to enjoy every year for Dream Cruise at Memorial Park in 2021.
We will be processing refunds this week and next. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.
Thanks,
John Fedele - Superintendent of Recreation

Bummer about the park. Although i'm sure Woodward will still be packed with cars that weekend, it's packed every weekend now already with cruisers. We will be around and ready to cruise with whoever still comes into town.
Well Rob...I have been cruising Michigan for the last 4 years. But in a Black on Black tractor trailer. Never quite get close enough to you though. I’m in Central part and the thumb for the most part. I have thought about dropping thru the city but time seems to get in the way. Had a great visit with Rudy last week. I have got to get up there for a visit and get the cars up to date. Stay safe....
Woodward 2021 will be dependent on Memorial Park being open again as well as the city allowing the vendors to return
I hope there is some info available by mid summer 2021 so we can plan the event if indeed it can be held
I will keep in contact with the city and our parking contact throughout the summer and I will create a 2021 thread if the event is going to happen
