Description:

I need a set of what I believe is called bow tension cords, they are made of a spring, a cord made like a bungee cord and a barrel on the opposite side of the spring. It holds the convertible top up about 6" when unlocked. I have posted a photo of what it looks like.

If you are referring to the item I have attached in the photo, it isn’t what I need, those are the side tension cables.

The drivers side was broken on my blue roadster, when I took the top fabric loose and rolled it back I found the plastic T that holds it in place on the rear end of the cable was broken on the left side. When I looked at the cable on the right side I saw that it was also broken but apparently sometime in its past some one had cut off the plastic fitting and crimped an eyelet type crimp connector onto the end of the cable and riveted it in place. I’ve had the car for five years so the repair has lasted at least that long. I made the same repair to the left side and so far it is working fine. I shoved something into the nylon cable to give the crimp connector something to bite onto, I don’t remember what I used. I searched for replacement cables but came up empty. I think they are called detent cables. I should have taken pictures but I didn’t.

Thumbs up Re: Convertible Top Bow Tension Cords needed!

Thank you for the info, it seems that with the age of our Crossfires, these rope cables are failing on a regular basis. So, if they would produce them, they would sell. The search continues! LOL.

I believe that I can get them from my "parts car". Let me go see how difficult it might to remove them without having to remove the entire convertible top (as I'm not ready to open up the car to the weather). I'll get back to you shortly.

EDIT: Yes, I can pull them from my parts car. They won't come with rust on the springs though . . .
$50 for the pair shipped anywhere CONUS. Email me at RedDogNumber1@aol.com if you want them . . . I can pull them today and get them shipped tomorrow if we can wrap this up in time. Otherwise, I will ship them out the next business day after receipt of your payment. Thanks . . .

Hello all,
So I take it by this thread there are two different sets of cables like this.
I need the cable that wont allow the top to slam down when I put the top up.
Thanks

The convertible top has a set of tension cables on the sides, these are made of a cable and are available online new for purchase.
The second set of cables is known as the Bow Tension Cables, they are made with a spring, a cord like paracord and a barrel on the end to hold it in place where its supposed to be.
The bow cords I have yet to find for sale aftermarket.
The ones you need are the bow Tension cords with spring. These cause the bow of the top to rise when unlocked and keep the top from slamming down when closing the top.

I'm coming up with a plan to rebuild my bow cords due to not being able to find a replacement new or used.
My thoughts are this. I found my plastic end piece I plan on drilling a small hole threw it aprox. .10 in.(the outer diameter of the break cable crimp)
Then use a bicycle break cable end and crimp it to it. I don't know if anyone else has attempted to fix these cables.
If the plastic piece is weakened too much after the drilling I will attempt to build a stainless steal end piece the same size and try again.
If I am able to get a viable solution to the problem I will be more than willing to start repairing these cables for us.
As always any help or lessons learned about this matter is greatly appreciated.

I wanted to update this page for those of you that require the detent cables like I do. I found them online at Chrysler Jeep Dodge City of McKinney. P/N (05170335AA) CABLE KIT. DETENT, SIDE TENSION.
$97.77
Qty: 1:
05170335AA
Hope this helps someone out.

Uhhh . . . I just took the time to "find" the actual information that you posted.

https://parts.chryslerjeepdodgecityo...5170335AA.html

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I don't think that "kit" will include that part(s) that you actually need.

Red Dog, you are correct! I believe the item Doc78 has purchased is what sits above the bow tension cords. It will not solve the bow problem.
