I agree.
This thread from 2013 is one of the best ones that I've found on the tension cord. Post #3 in the thread provides photos of how to access it. Maybe RedDog can say if he has a better way to get to the cords.
It's finally stopped raining here and I'm still hoping to find the cords in a wrecked '05 about an hour from me.

[QUOTE=RED DOG;957256]Uhhh . . . I just took the time to "find" the actual information that you posted.

https://parts.chryslerjeepdodgecityo...5170335AA.html

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I don't think that "kit" will include that part(s) that you actually need.[/QUOTE
Thank you all for the help and effort in trying to find these detent cables. As of now I have two separate orders one from convertible top guys the other from Chrysler Dodge City of McKinney.
I wrote to convertible top guys and they stated that the ones they have listed are correct. I replied to them stating that they only have one type cable listed on their website and the Crossfire has two.
I also provided illustrations from the service manual to back up my claims.
I will let everyone know what the outcome is.
I would like to state that in the description of the (05170335AA) that I ordered from the Chrysler Dodge City of McKinney list that they have the springs and use the term detent cable.
Thank you all once again and I hope to be able to find us a solution to this growing problem.
UPDATE:
The above dealer canceled my order due to not having them in stock. The hunt continues.
UPDATE#2:
So Mad dog was right the whole time and super nice about it I'd like to add I was hunting the wrong cables the whole time. 05166987AB item # 6 on page 416 on the 2005 parts list PDF found on this forum. This the correct part number for these and I can not find them any where.
UPDATE#3:
The cables I received from Convertible Top Guys were the wrong ones. They are Part number 05170335AA item #8 on page 416 on the 2005 parts list PDF found on this forum. So the journey continues maybe I can repair mine.

I replaced my convertible top in April 2021 and had the same problem with the broken cables. I made a set that replaces the cable and barrel end but uses the original spring which makes the repair easier. Other people requested that I make them to sell, so a friend and I have made some. If you buy them directly from me they would be $55 including shipping since I don't have to pay eBay or buy them on eBay. They work very well and this is the eBay listing https://www.ebay.com/itm/255064926554

I would defiantly place your cables on the market place on this forum. I know that you will sell a few. I think I just bought some off of you on Ebay. They look great and well made! I personally thank you for doing this. I called a few of the convertible companies out there and they seemed to have no interest in building or repairing these cables. Thank you once more for taking this on for those of us who care for these cars and want to see them on the road for many more years!

Thanks for the feedback and I am glad they helped you.. When I realized mine were broken/damaged I was very happy when I found a way to replace them. It is a terrible feeling when something breaks on our cars and there are no parts available to repair them. I was fortunate to have a friend that could make the machined parts. We will continue to sell them as long as we can and people want them but time is limited due to our age(70+).

I know how you feel. I am working with a guy to start 3D printing some of our harder to find plastic and rubber pieces. I don't know where I will end up with this venture but I am at least trying to be part of the solution.

Thanks to clkashe, I have replaced my bow tension cords. At the same time, I repaired the torn "stay pads" webbing and lubed a couple of fittings that you can't get to with the top on.
Besides clkashe, the video that Marc has on replacing the top was invaluable.

You going to make some more? Mine aren't broken but I'm in the process of changing my top, so I would like to change them. Also, do you make them a little shorter?
Again, mine aren't broken but they don't hold the front of the top up. Oooops, never mine, I just bought some from you for $58.

Hi Larry,
The cables will go out tomorrow. There is very little difference in the cables. They are already made and I select the shortest I have. I can't imagine the springs changing on your top. The existing original cables may have stretched even though they are not broken. They are only staked into the plastic ends. My cables are s/s steel so they will not stretch and they are all load tested to 85 pounds each to insure the crimps hold. Shortening the cables could likely increase the loads on them above a desirable level. When you put the new top on it will add resistance so the top is tight when the header is locked in place. I think you will be fine with the cables I am sending.

Thanks for the compliment!
I am glad they worked well for you. If I had not been able to make them when I redid my top I would not have been happy.

Yes, they are on eBay or you can buy directly from me for $58 which includes shipping. I currently have a few sets left.

I make these to replace the original cables. They are easier to install since you use the existing springs. https://www.ebay.com/itm/255166287002

I can vouch for clkashe's cables. Installed a pair two months and working great. At the same time, I repaired the torn "stay pads", those nylon webbing straps that run from front to back on each side of the top. Also, lubed the locking mechanisms that are in the front edge of the top. Also, learned how to pop rivet. What a deal!

How to but direct, no point in giving money to Ebay.
