Default Frozen Gas Door

Ran my roadster through a carwash over a week ago, and since the temps have been bitterly cold, the gas door now won't open. I've tried hot H20, Prestone De-Icer and parking it in the garage, but it's still frozen shut.

Anyone else have this happen or any thoughts on a fix?

Thanks!

If you can get back to the garage, try a hair dryer on the hinges, and the front of the door. I had this happen to another car, only it was the doors. Hope this helps.

did you make sure the doors are unlocked? if the doors are locked a little pin will slide in and lock it closed.

Try getting to the locking/unlocking mechanism via the trunk of the car. You will be able to see all the moving parts to the right hand side.

Guys - Got the problem resolved by running hot water on the door at the car wash and then gently prying the door open while chipping out a small ice rink that had formed in the filler opening. I'm guessing the black rubber grommet at the lower left hand side of the gas door is the drain plug, and it was frozen so water/ice couldn't properly drain out.

Thanks to you all for the helpful and quick responses. This is a great forum, and you guys are the best.

The message is if you get your X-Fire washed and the temps are in the single digits, make sure you park in a warm garage (and have a full tank of gas!).

Very interesting story. My new Dodge Dakota came with free car washes, so I drove over to the dealer hoping to get the salt off...the temp was 19. The sales manager told me they don't open the carwash unless the temp is above 20. It seems that Crossfires aren't the only vehicles that don't respond well to post carwash water with below freezing temp. When I went back 2 weeks later they advised me the car wash only opens above 32...and it was 39 so I got my first free car wash. I'll have to sneak my Crossfire in and see if they run it through for me.
