Default Third Brake Light Replaced

Hi,

Thought I'd share my experience.
The dealer did replace the LED third brake light on my roadster.
And they finally agreed to cover it under warranty...since it is considered a light module.

It was actually easy to replace. Here's how:

1. Use the spoiler override button on the dash to raise spoiler.
2. Open trunk lid and remove plastic lid cover (held on by plastic Pop Rivets).
3. If you now look thru and behind the spoiler motor, you will see 5 small screws that hold the light assembly in place as well as 3 plastic locator pins. Remove the 5 screws. Lower truck lid. Slowly remove light assembly. Unplug electrical wire connector. Thats it!

If this happens to you and your out of warranty...the LED third brake light assembly sells for about $200.00.

Interesting note...although many LED lights in the module were out, I thought that the Dash Brake light would come on to tell me a light was out...I think that's the way it's suppose to work...but the brake light never came on. I only found out and saw that the light had a problem during an inspection.

Thanks for sharing. Glad to hear it was replaced under warranty.

Interesting that you didn't get a brake light indicator or lamp out indicator at all... hmm.

I suspect the module was still providing about the same resistance to the electrical system and didn't really go 'out', but had a bad section in it's own circuitry.

It is surprising that they don't have a checking circuit that would see a bad section and then cut power to the unit to allow the rest of the electrical system to see it as a blown bulb.
