Auto Dimming Mirror
I didn't realize that my reply to an earlier thread was in the Other Regions section, so I decided to repeat it here.
Thought I'd see if there was any new information on this subject. I understand that only the 2004 XFRs came with the auto dimming mirror, so my 2005 SRT6 Roadster didn't come with one. And if I had a coupe I could live with it, but I think it almost dangerous to have the flip up mirror in a roadster. If it's just getting dark and headlights are blinding you from behind, you flip the mirror and see the blue sky that hasn't fully darkened yet. Or maybe worse, in an urban area, with the mirror flipped up you get intermittent views of the street lights or neon signs, what have you, instead of traffic behind you. Flipping the mirror down doesn't help much as the interior is lit up so much that you see that instead of a rear view. So, has anyone tried to order a 2004 mirror, even if they don't have a 2004? Or did Chrysler need to see a VIN before they would sell it? Or has anyone tried one of the aftermarket self dimming mirrors? Such as:

Or

These normally require a wire run in the windshield surround, but I was wondering if they could be wired into the garage door opener power? I wouldn't get the one with all the bells and whistles, already have a temperature read out on the dash and never could understand what good a compass was in a car, where you have to follow the road rather than a compass heading. Any thoughts?

Compass is invaluable when it is night time. aAnd you have been in what seems like and endless exit ramp or turns on several short windy roads and come upon a highway that you have to go a particular direction on (north/south) and your internal (in your head) compass is a screwed up. In fact I did it a few days ago in an area i wasn't familiar with and actually went the wrong way for about a mile or two before I figured out I was going the wrong way. It might be easy in sunny florida even at night, but in Ohio with perpetual clouds you have no sun or moon assistance.
Mine has it in the navigation radio. I don't know if the std radio has one or not. When I got lost I was driving the wife's focus.
And no, my car is a caddy and the xfire in the summer, but she still loves me. She is perfectly happy being an ornament in the passenger seat watching all the other women stare jealously at her in the gorgeous car with the handsome guy(last part is my opinion)LOL.
