Default Backup Camera

I've checked the forum and it's been more than 2 years since comments about backup cameras.

Has anyone installed one recently.
If so would you recommend.

Costco has just started selling a wireless by Virtual Reality Video Labs.
Here in Canada $100.

I've read past thread that the mount to the license plate interferes with access for your hand to the trunk latch. I expect I'll come up with another solution because the camera bracket and camera housing are not pretty.

Comments please.

I was thinking about incorporating one when I was looking around for aftermarket car audio equipment. Some decks with nice full color screens have inputs for an external video source. Too expensive for me though.

Heheh, being 6'3", I've also considered a stop light camera mounted in the front because when I'm first in a short intersection, I can't see the light without ducking down and I feel like a dork...

Haha... I have that problem too sometimes... I can't see the stoplight if I'm first at the light. I didn't realize that until after I bought the car. I just try to look for a side light or something.

Regarding the backup camera, I heard some people had them and that would be sweet if you figured out an alternative.

Black Diamond,

I had a backup camera installed when I got my GPS. The camera I got however was a higher end one recommended by the installer. I don't remember what model it was. I had it mounted beside the license plate on the right side. It is a flush mount, cannot be stolen, and looks like a key slot at first glance. I had to have a hole drilled through but I don't lease and have no intention of selling and it looks nice. I suppose if you lease it wouldn't work.

Do you have pictures? What did it run you? I don't lease, so I don't care.

I've got a picture I'll try to attach. The cost was $170. I had a pioneer AVIC-N2 w/sirius radio installed and I think the 170 was just the camera itself and the installation was bundled into the rest of the work. It was suggested because of theft of so many other types of cameras systems and this does look good (at least to me). I know that the clean look is preferred to most but it does not interfere to much. The lens is high quality and it really shows a wide angle for backing up. It takes a little practice and learning to trust what your seeing but I feel much better now. Our neighborhood has changed in the last few years and we have lots of small to teenage kids running around now.

I don't think it looks that bad and it's a pretty sweet feature.

What do you think of that head unit? Any pictures of it installed? The stock stereo is KILLING me, especially with the top down. I'm looking for something crisper, louder, and better looking. I'll clearly replace the speakers, but I have no idea as to what head unit to go with and I'd like to add satellite and the backup camera as well.
