Cool Tires

Just got a 2006...fantastic in every way and really don't mind at all that there are so few on the road...but cannot understand why sales were so low. Anyhow, reading the forum I was a bit taken aback at the cost of the tires...if anything should ever go wrong. Is it the "high performance" aspect of this car that demands $400 dollar tires? I am not a racing driver, I don't really need speedway tires...especially at $400 a pop.

Do I have a choice when something goes wrong? Or do I take out a second mortgage?

I've bought tires for my other cars from TireRack. They have good prices and quick delivery. The problem with the 19"s is they are back ordered.

Because DC couldn't have done a worse job marketing these cars. Most people don't even know what they are (and it's supposed to be a halo car). The little bit of marketing they did do involved Celine Dion.

This is the response that I got from Tirerack last week when I inquired about availability on the Continental ContiTouringContact CW95" size 255/35ZR19 :

Bill,

We have no solid estimate from Continental when this tire will be available. My only suggestion is to try back periodically or to consider another option.

Please contact me directly to discuss further.

Thank you,

Nate

Does anyone have any suggestions for a similar price? My local Continental dealer is over $60.00 more per tire. They say that they can get them in a week. I'm planning a trip in early October and need tires before then. I may have to spend the additional cash unless I find another source.

I went with the general exclaim UHP's. Have been super happy with them, and they have gotten me through a colorado winter as well, they love the rain and just look nice overall. The only difference, is in the back you will have to go with a 265/30 or a 275/30 versus the 255/35, but no major issues with speedo, or handling, they react great, have good hook-up and only slightly stiffen the rear ride. and the cost isn't too bad either.
