2008 Crossfire
Yup, looks like there is going to be a 2008 Crossfire. Check out this AutoWeek article:

I especially liked this:
"A Chrysler spokeswoman said production of the Crossfire never ceased, but the company stopped taking orders for seven or eight months in North America to "balance" the inventory."

Karmann is supposed to re-start Crossfire production ?
What are they going to use for motors ?
I'm not aware of any M-B products still using the 3.2 SOHC V6.
I just posted this at the MBworld forum to get some input...
"I had thought Karmann was finished with the Crossfire's production run.
But now there are a number of reports of a run of '08 models starting at Karmann in the next month or two.
Here's my question; are there any current Mercedes models still using the 3.2 SOHC V6 ? If not, and all current M-B products use the 3.5 DOHC V6 motor, where are the engines for this run of Crossfire production going to come from ? Could they be planning to upgrade to the 3.5 motor? Or is there enough surplus 3.2 powerplants sitting around somewhere to allow another few thousand Crossfires to be produced."
Now, in our dreams, the new 250+ Hp 3.5 DOHC V6 would be powering the 2008 Crossfires.
That would certainly help make the car competitive in
the marketplace at the 30K+ price point.
I'll believe it when I see it!

Pretty impressive especially when you consider the numbers sold (2006-8216 and 2005-14665). Does anyone know the numbers for 2004? Seems like Chrysler has been making money on the XF but we still cant find factory support at SEMA.
I still want to know where another 8-10 thousand M-B 3.2 V6 motors are going to come from !
Insofar as I know production has shifted to the 3.5 DOHC motor at Mercedes. Are they going to set-up a short run line of 3.2 engines or up grade the Crossfire to the 3.5 DOHC V6. Both possibilities seem pretty far-fetched !

Don't take this information for fact it is only speculation...
Does anyone know the physical size of the bigger motor? Will the transmission bolt up?
I have a hard time believing that they will re-tool the entire line just to make a few thousand more cars! That whole cost-benefit analysis thing!

I doubt very much there will be a 2008 Crossfire unless its totally remodeled and build in the USA.
I have yet to see a 2007 VIN# on this forum or on a dealers lot.
My '06 Limited was the latest VIN I have seen so far. (See pic in Gallery).

It's just a lot hype to clear out 2 years worth of old inventory.

KcKey12's brother-in-law brought his to Woodward. It is a 2007 (10th VIN digit is a 7) w/a build date of 02/07.

This is all just fine and dandy but it still doesn't address the fact that there are still quite a few brand new model year 2006's that have yet to be sold. The 2006's are also at fire-sale prices (we bought a limited coupe with over $13,000 off of MSRP). So how are they going to sell the 2007's? I'm just asking a simple question? It makes no sense whatsoever to talk about a model year 2008 when the 2007's are just NOW starting to appear.
Corvettes never had a model year 1983. Where is it written there has to be another '07 Crossfire produced. Just go right to '08 VIN's if they want to continue even limited production in '08 to use up parts. Then '07 and '08 LTD's will truly be!

Some think the Cayenne should be eliminated entirely, but that's another story...
All these replies, and no one caught this?
My 2004 had TPMS...!
The 2008 model goes into production this summer, adding a tire pressure monitoring system and other minor changes.

How do you like the new SLK so far?
Get this all, The new crossfire as indicated by the dealer for 2008 will be longer because the clk had retooled and made there frames longer. How much longer? Long enough to have more space behind the seats. By the way, in case you did not know, the body is made in Italy.
