Chrysler
God, I love my Crossfire and get excited everytime I drive it and everytime I just look at it, but I just don't understand Chrysler. I guess I am actually thankful, in a selfish kind of way but ??? I just got a copy of the Fall /Winter copy of Chrysler Magazine and the Crossfire is featured on pages 16, 40 and included on page 62. This is ? the final year and this is the most print time I have seen. This fine automobile is going to be the sleeper of the future !!! I plan on keeping and enjoying mine for a long, long time.
I don't think DC ever intended to build more XF's then they did. Unless sales skyrocketed and even then we would now see the XF offered on R171 chassis. (or something else).
I think MB had a boat load of left-over R170 frames and 320 and 32 engines when they updated the SLK line to the R171 chassis. So they said let's build a new body, call it a Chrysler and we can off this excess inventory. We won't spend too much on advertising, keep the changes from year to year to a minimum and well see what happens. That's why the XF was priced so hi when first on the market and so low now - profit maximization on a limited quantity with marginal demand.
They could never sell new XF's again for $32K. Never happen and they know it. People would walk away. Once price comes down on a commodity with many suitable alternate choices - yer staked to the ground.
The rest of the story you know.

I'll agree totally with the above. When the x-fire first came out, I was in love with the thing, but thought (at the time) it was a bit impractical, at least for me anyway. Momma still drove her Caddy everyday, and I was still in the pick-up. A month or so ago, that all changed when she spotted the Red Roadster. A 2006 leftover, never titled, 200 miles on the clock. "You know, I've ALWAYS had the "family car" In a flash, she traded in her DTS and drove out. She LOVES the car, and quite frankly, does not care if they ever make any more.
I've loved the Crossfire since I first laid eyes on one but knew it was more money than I was willing to spend on what would be a weekend toy. So I went with a Mazda Miata instead, used actually, that I got a killer deal on. I was sort of testing the whole "weekend toy" concept, in all honesty!!!
Fast forward three years and I'm thinking about getting a new Miata - test drove 'em, liked 'em, yadda yadda. But then I started seeing these amazing prices on Crossfires so I held off on the Miata upgrade for a bit, and ultimately found my Crossfire, a Limited Roadster with 32 miles on the clock, for about $21,000. A new Miata, equipped the way I would want it, would have cost me a few grand more.
So for less money I get a much more solid, faster, quieter, comfortable and considerably more exclusive weekend toy. And if Chrysler never builds another Crossfire that's just fine by me. I've got mine and ain't nobody takin' it away from me!!!

It was Love at first sight for me too. and that was the hard top but I almost fell over when I saw it was 38000. so I went on thinking it was way to much. then one day a friend says there giving them away. well the next week Iam driving buy on my bike and there she was just waiting for me 2006 metal gray w/all the toys roadster limtited.
I turned around went in to the dealship the window price was 42000 got for 29400. and the rest is history. I hope they stop selling them then in 30 years we will be the car that people will ask what is that. I know already I will own more as they get older I want one for keeping perfect and another to drive the wheels off of.
