Default Radar detector advice...

What are you guys using for a radar detector? What manufacturer and model?

My research indicates that the best detectors are the Escort Passport 9500i, Bel STi Driver or the Valentine V1?

Does anyone have any experience with any of these models?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

what's the point? If a cop says your speeding over the posted limit, your screwed anyways, radar or no radar. Trust me I've been sighted by an officer who pulled this crap on me. I went to court and the judge agreed with the officer, and there wasn't any laser detector in use. Hell my rear spoiler wasn't even deployed!

I got the Passport. It's saved me on more than drive. Picks up radar and laser farther than others I've seen. My son is sold on it after driving my car and having it go off long before his detector would. And with the GPS, and the display set for MPH, I can see how fast I'm going with a glance to the detector and not look down at the dash.

V1 is my choice. A bit expensive, but it does help.

I've thought about buying one, but thought I read somewhere that my car insurance might be voided if a detector is discovered in use/present at the time of an accident. Does any one know if that's true? I know it may be an issue with particular insurance companies, but has anyone else heard that tale?

In our Nanny state of Victoria, Australia, it is illegal to use a Radar detector, and apparently Cop cars have Radar Detector detectors!!!.

yeah, but good radar detectors have "Stealth" technology so that radar detector detectors can't find them.

There are lots of ways that "Smokey" can get you that don't use radar. However, a lot of local cops keep their radar on all the time so you know they're in the area. You still need to keep a sharp eye out for cops in your rear-view mirror and on bridges, etc...

That being said, when my old escort died, I ran right out and got another one!

I was a member of a Ferrari forum - those owners unanimously chose the V1.

V1. I've tried Escorts and I think the Valentine is more accurate.
