I would hope that you would go first...go to Todk64 or chryslerservicecontracts.com and pick up an ESP to cover yourself!

Is the car manual or auto? If manual, clutch will go...but the 'little' annoyances will be the most trouble. These are a pain, and often expensive considering how 'small' the problem is. This is the main reason I bought and extended service plan.

my car has 42,000 miles and nothing has broke. From past experience with a Mercedes with the same engine in it, I would bet on the crank shaft position sensor. Not a big deal though. Mechanically these cars are about as close to indestructable as you will ever see. The problems tend to be eletrical, like sensors.

 

Yea, it's the little (non-mechanical) things that seem to bother you. The 3.2 is pretty solid from what I've read.

With the Roadster, I'd be concerned with the rear window separating from the top. (It's already happened to somebody out West). But it probably has more to do with extremely high temperatures causing the failure, so living in the N.East, you probably don't have to worry.

 

I bought the ESP because if the top should ever fail the price of 1 repair will cover the cost of the ESP alone.

While I don't sense there are a lot of problems with the Crossfires owned by people on this forum, if you go to the Mercedes forum and check out the sister car (SLK) there seem to be all kinds of problems in the SLKs. I find that strange.

 

well, your headlights will survive, they'll just get little foggy- kinda like humans as they get older.

 

womens headlights seem to sag i've never seen a crossfire with headlights just above its belt.

 

I vote for electrical. I have my '05 with 13,000 miles in the shop for some warranty work. The air bag light came on, the locking switch on the dash doesn't work and the dome lights will not come on when the door is open. The dealer said they have ordered a body sensor or monitor??? Seems there must be something that affects multiple items in the car. I doubt the air bags are connected to this, but you never know. I'm glad this is all on the dealer, I can only imagine what it would have cost. I do love my Crossfire, what a fun car to drive. It is a race to get to the drivers side before my better half gets there, we trade off on the weekends. Just can't get enough wheel time...

 

Well... the way I see it, our group and any other group that gathers and talks about thier loved [insert common item here] are going to do just that, talk about it.

And with XF/SLK, there is a lot to talk about. If we were Navel Engineers, it would be about that. I talk to most my coworkers about railroading. That is a huge common interest in our lives.

As for the problems with the SLKs, as I understand it, the XF is basically the last of that dead breed. Didn't Merc stop that line? Hopefully (for us) by now they will have worked out all the significant problems.

This may be a stupid question...but you are aware that you can hit the button by the dome light and set it so that the dome lights do not come on when you open the door.

And hey, I resent that old age=foggy thing...............now what the heck was I doing?...............oh yeah, stuff breaking; nope, not a thing.

 

Glad to see that most of you have had a dependable car. We have a black 05 roadster barlely 8,000 miles on it. It has been in the shop 3 times for the radio, the last time I told them I was certain it was a short. But, they went ahead and ordered the new radio and sure enough after a short time it started shorting out again! funny, when you open the door it comes back to full volume. It does not shut itself off but simply the volume goes down to where you can not hear it.
Also the **** to adjust the side mirrors quit working but they did get it fixed!

May be time to find a new dealer to deal with the radio problem!!!!

i have 46k not a thing wong. but some people on here have freak problems that only they have. or very few have, example rust under the door. fog headlamps, wing problems, electrical, my car runs good but i only drive mine on weekends, so maybe 8 days out of the month, i keep 91 gas as you all should, mobile one oil, k and n filters, and just go easy on the engine, go fast but only when needed, keep it washed and waxed and i think the crossfire will prove to be eternal.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!well myabe not eternal but around for a while. enough for someone to call it old... sheesh thats a horible thought

 

My guess is that the dealer won't work on the radio problem but will use a third party contractor who exclusively works on radios. That is the case with most auto dealers.
