Default Problems with top going down and rear wing intermittenly deploying

Hi all;

I would love to get to a group meeting somewhere to ask for help but live in Germany and there's no such thing here.

I've got a 2005 sapphire blue roadster and just this past summer the switch that is engaged by the partition became glitchy, after releasing the handle I get the beeping and the mechanism starts and stops. Releasing and resetting the partition sometimes works but there have been times when it didn't. Additionally the wing will deploy intermittenly after a hard braking, on startup or sometimes just sitting at idle.

The dealer here in Frankfurt that sells Crossfires is pretty much useless, claiming they're having many problems with the tops and tell me to not put any pressure on the partition. Regarding the wing they just tell me it doesn't happen when they drive it, and yet it's a daily occurance for me.

It's clear to me I'm going to have to lead them by the nose if I'm to get these problems fixed so I'm looking for any advice from you.

Can anyone help by telling me-
Is the switch located in the mount where the partition sits on the left side (facing the trunk) the only switch for the top mechanism to engage and do you have any suggestions for this problem ??
Has anyone heard of the wing deploying like this and what the cause may be ??

Thank you

On my car, albeit a UK spec - there is a micro switch at the top of the coupling that the partion locator sits into, on the left hand side, as you face the boot.

J.J. rather than spending weeks, if not months dealing with the dealer who usually doesn't have a clue as to how to fix your car. I would take things into my own hands and try something different.
Having a coupe, I really can't help you with your top issue. But for your wing that has a mind of it's own, simply do like I did and "hot wire" your fuse box and by-pass the fuse for the wings motor with an "on/off switch".
I wasn't having any problems with my wing when I did it, I just wanted to have more "control" over when the wing went up.
I think this would probably be the "easiest" way to stop it from coming up when ever it wants to.

Hello everyone,

Thanks to those who replied and offered help. I'm just reporting back to let you know what the problem was found to be now that it is fixed.

The BCM (body control module) had to be replaced. I found a competent service manager at a dealer in a nearby town who kept it on the meter until a fault code was captured. It turns out this module controls the wing and the mechanism that raises and lowers the top, and it was reading the car as moving about 5km/hr while it was standing still.

Another interesting twist to this story is that, because my car is out of warranty, the repair was going to run me more than 700 Euros (just over $1000 at current exchange rates) because of the cost of the part here in Germany. But the svc mgr said it would be a lot less if I could get it from the US and he would be wiling to install a part I didn't buy through him considering I had just done the 50K full service through him.

It turns out that, for a part manufactured in Germany by MBenz and exported to the US for Mopar, it ended up costing me nearly $500 cheaper by getting it from a dealer in the US and having a friend bring it back for me than if I bought the same part here in Germany.

The entire repair ended up costing me only $450 US, absolutely amazing how much of a difference it makes buying things in the US instead of over here !!!!

Anyway, everything is back to working perfectly and I'm once again a happy C-fire owner who can take advantage of a summer with the top down :>)

Cheers

Hope keeping mine inside and dry will keep these kinds of things from happening to mine. Seems like every fix is a bank account buster...be interesting to know what exactly went belly up in that module.

Yep. And as our dollar continues to plunge against the euro, it will just get cheaper.
