Default Here we go again - Top Again

I have taken this car in 10 times now ... same result top works for a day or two then some jiggling here and there ..... then no worky
They have replaced: Top motor, top switch, trunk partition switch, the trunk lock latch (they broke it and tried to blame it on me) and some other unknown part.
The latest "fix" was after about 3 days it stopped working, you could turn off the radio if it was on or vise versa and the top would work. You could lock or unlock the doors and the top would work, open and close the trunk, work, then nothing at all. I didn't try setting it on fire and dancing around it naked so Im not sure if that will work.
I absolutely love this car, but frankly as I've said before I'm very close to giving up and buying something more dependable. When we made the appointment this time we requested a rental car, they said they would "look into it" a game I play with them EVERY TIME and they are well aware that my warranty covers the rental. If they can't fix it this time I'm going to file a lemon law case, stick a fork in it and call it done.

Who's the dealer and what city? Maybe someone here can suggest somewhere else to take it. I think it's obvious those guys don't know how to fix the problem. Don't let them win!

Get a coupe and no more problems with the top
Actually I hope someone resolves your issue.
It is a shame something like this would drive anyone to sell the car.

Do the windows go down when you unlatch the top? I had mine in 3 times before they got it. It would work when I left the dealership and not the next time I tried - I can only imagine the frustratiion if it's been 10 times! It was the header latch switch on mine(in where the dome light is ) if the windows don't go down it's a good one to check. Mines been good since they changed it. Good luck either way getting it fixed or getting them to take it back.

They now have had the car for 8 days with parts on order. The tech tells me that Chrysler doesnt even know what the problem is, and no error codes show on the "top computer". So they ordered a computer and power switch.
The funny story is: My rental car time ran out and to accommodate me they gave me a new Dodge Caliber to drive while the parts are coming in. So I go to pick up the car and the battery was deader than doornail, I just had to laugh, we jumped it off and I went on my way. I thought it was very nice of them to provide me with a car especially a new one.
The Caliber is no Crossfire .... not even close.

Found out that the Chrysler dealer that was working on my Roadster 'no longer had a Crossfire Certified Tech' to work on the car, which means they let whatever mechanic that is available work on it. All kinds of problems with that, even on something as simple as an oil change. Now I now take mine to a private shop with Mercedes trained techs. The attention to detail they bring to even the routine maintenance I very rarely witnessed at any Chrysler Dealership (never at Bill Luke here in Phx!). They were more than happy to point out what work Chrysler should pick up on my warranty and checked to see it was done right. They actually care about the vehicle as the finely crafted machine that it is, not the bother and burden that many Chrysler dealerships seem to think our cars are. I have sadly come to the belief that taking our vehicles to a Chrysler Dealer for maintenance is kind of like running them though cheap car washes... not necessarily better than nothing.

from what I am hearing ,it seems like the convertible top mechanism may be an ongoing problem . My last car was an XJS and it too was always a guess as to whether it would work or not when you really needed it. That top had a bypass valve on the hydraulics that would enable it to be brought back up manually and I had to do that twice. Does this car have a back up system to get the top back up?

Top Update - Monday it will be 3 weeks in the shop ... They have replaced the computer only to have the "bottom bow" not lift enough and stick. The service mgr. seems to be getting the run around from Chrysler the "try this and call when something happens". According to him Chrysler says the roadster tops are problematic, something forum members don't seem to have problems with, so who knows?

On a brighter side we decided to take the plunge and purchase another an 07 roadster ltd and hopefully wont have these problems, thank goodness for extended warranties.

Story Wrap-up:
After 3 weeks 2 days I finally got the roadster back from the dealer. After 10 times they finally figured out that it was the top switch, something that I suggested to them the first time I took in after the suggestions I received from you fine folks. In the times I took it in they replaced the partition switch, the hydraulic pump, the control computer and a power relay.
When I got it back the car was covered with dust inside and out, scratched silver parts where they pried the console open for switch and after driving at highway speed with top up, the rear "bow rubber seal" was broken. So I called to let them know about the seal, I cleaned up the car myself, and the manager wanted to see it to make sure he ordered the right part. I take a drive across town, ask for the service mgr. and wait, finally the not so friendly service writer (I think he hates me, I've never been rude nor yelled at the 10 TIMES I had to take it in) comes out and looks at it says the mgr will be out in a few minutes. Minutes pass service writer comes back and says they "know the part and they break all the time" and will have one next week and to call. So in other words they WASTED my time AGAIN. This "5 star" dealer has not given me a survey since the 4th time I brought the car in, I wonder why??
I almost gave up on the car but now its just to fun to drive, especially with a "His and Hers" combo. So I guess I'll be a "thorn in the dealers side" for the next 6 yrs or 70k miles, which ever comes first ... lol.

OK Blue chocolate....
Let me get this right. You had trouble with the top on your roadster, the dealer couldn't get it right, so you took your wife for a ride in a new Caliber and she let you buy another Roadster. FOR HER!

Do you think I could try the same tactic but end up getting an SRT6?.
For her of course.....

The original roadster was hers, she would let me drive it when I promised to wash it. She didn't like driving my old Dodge Cummins diesel, it was to slow for her ... lol. The Caliber was ok, great for carrying groceries but, no fun in driving it.
You might try something like I did ... quote "I got this crazy idea, why don't we buy another roadster, the same dealer has some newer ones on sale" .... she told me to call em and get another. Now that she has the red ltd. I have not been able to drive it, passenger only ... lol.
BTW, everybody thinks you are the ultimate in coolness having "His and Hers" Crossfires. I've lost count of how many people have stopped and struck up a conversation about the Crossfire, they are the ultimate "poor man's exotic".

Thanks CrossfiresSS, I'll give her a go, might work.

I have two other things working in my favor;

She has joked about HIS & HERS but hers would have to be an automatic hence my thoughts on SRT-6 as they only come that way.

Secondly, she has been visiting grand kids in CT for four weeks and is suffering from Crossfire withdrawl. As she does this trip often she could have her own, for the trip, if we had two.

So, I guess I'm looking for an SRT-6 convertible in Saphire Blue. Or red or slate or white or............

I'll let you know how it works out. thanks for the advice
