Just wanted to officially say goodbye
Just wanted to officially say goodbye
Hey guys, well the car was inspected for lease turn in y'day and I turned it back last night. Someone is going to get themselves a gorgeous looking, outstanding driving, quality automobile. I drove it alot over these last 2 months (since buying the XF's replacement) and really enjoyed every minute of it. That said, it went back with 8,700 miles. There is no question I'd have loved to get another and had my salesman worked a little I'd still be a member of this wonderful fraternity. Unfortunately my salesman got lazy after 9 cars in 14 years and all the 08's I'd have bought (color selection) were gone. Im sure I'll be happy with my Boxster but I won't feel as special or unique anymore. Enjoy your cars fellas and gals. They are special automobiles that won't come along again anytime soon. Stay well and drive carefully.

Sorry to see you go. Only 8,700 miles on a lease return? You didn't get your money's worth out of the car!
On another note, I have seen several lease returns here lately where they had spent $$ on mods. What's the point of putting lots of money into a car when you're just going to "give" them to someone else?

Re: Just wanted to officially say goodbye
Since the final inspection was done by Manheim (from what I hear they are the worldwide auction people) I assumed it would be taken back to wherever they disperse them at auction. When the guy at my dealer was driving me home he said that it would probably stay at the dealership as they usually pick the cream of the crop for their own lot. As its the start of drop top season I think he's probably right. It won't be there long. As far as modding a leased car this time I was lucky. All of my mods were reversible and most of them I sold to you wonderful people. True it may have only been at 1/2 my cost but you can't always look at things in the way that "What did I lose" but rather "How much did I love that car at that time". Bottom line its part of the cost of ownership and as long as you don't spend more than you can afford than there's no harm.

I know how you feel. I just turned in my 05 coupe. 6speed, with just under 4,600 miles. Kept it in my garage, never drove it in the snow. But my dealer has a lot of new 07 & 08 XFires. So I purchased an 07 roadster auto this time. I'm not giving this one back. The deals on their 07's are to good to pass up.
