Advice needed for new ragtop I want
Since it has been decided that black is the fastest color, I went e-shopping.
I found this:http://texasautoonline.com/showroom/...!?store=&cond=
I can do plenty of thing mechanical, and revert to the manual when I get stumped, or find a few extra stray parts. But, I do know I have limits.
What should I be looking for specifically with this ride? I did go over it top an'bottom, in and out, with a flash light, and couldn't see anything obvious. Everything works, started right away, still smelled good even though the cig lighter is used. When pushing the corners to see if the shocks work, the left rear suspension squeaked. I'm guessing it's from lack of use, but maybe y'all know more?
The "drive off the lot" price is $17000. No warranty, but that's fine, I have plans
The salesman said that I did the most looking and poking any buyer has done, ever. He even offered to let me put it on the lift and poke around. I'll take him up on that offer when I go back to drive it.
I want it, but let me know what I should be aware of, please. This is not the first XF I have taken a look at, but it is the best cosmetic one I have seen in my area.

Just BUY it!
Tell him your out the door price is $15900 and you can split the difference with me!
How are the tires? They are pretty expensive so if they are near bad I'd get a new set as part of the deal.
Look for rust under the doors where the lower door seal meet the door (peel back the seal a little) rust? Price just went down.
Road rash on the rims? Price just went down.
Browse the site for other common problems that you might look for to keep the price down.
Have fun with your "new" car and welcome to the forum!

I think I'll offer $14.5k in $500 bills. Its been sitting there for 3 months. Who wants to buy a convertible in the winter? Even if you live in TX?
looks like a nice car, I'd do it in a NY minute! anything near 15 I would think isa fair price - what else can you drive that has 26,000 miles - is this much fun - fast enough to get all of us in trouble. and is just a cool car.
Have had mne over over a year - NO ISSUES - none nada - other than the billion 6 I spent on tires.

Get it up on the lift and check the brake pads for wear and make sure everything is tight underneath. Pull the tire pump and sealant out of the trunk and check underneath for water/sand -- you're not far from an area where cars get douched by hurricanes.
Take it for another test drive and make sure the ABS works right. A hard stop with hands off the wheel on a deserted road should tell you if the ABS is working and the rotors/brakes are good. If you can make that hard stop safely on a sandy or wet road, that much better.
Check the seat motors and heaters -- heater failure is a common issue. Make sure there are no rattles in the doors when closing. Raise and lower the top. Stop it about 1/2 way and inspect the cabling and interior that is normally covered by the rear panel.
Agree on the road rash down-pricing tactic. Point out the complexity of the top mechanism and the lack of warranty. There is a lot of room for negotiation when a car has been on the lot for over 90 days and now is even better because no one is moving vehicles and it costs them cash every month to floorplan it. Good luck.

Agree with Dogboy - asking price seems $3-4K too high.
As a comparison, my '07 Limited roadster with 6sp and just under 6K miles goes for $15-16K.
Seller probably paid $11-12K wholesale at auction. With the poor economy and approaching winter (even in TX), there's a lot of room left for negotiation.

I noticed the strakes are painted black (HHHHMMMMMMM), they are silver from the factory. Check for a repaint on the front fenders. The Air box was painted also so maybe its just that the previous owner panted the parts for a unique look.

EEESSHHHHHH!!!!!!!!
I may have to turn in my XFIRE card.
I didn't know the roadster was made in a Base version.
The stereo ***** should have prompted me to look deeper.

Since it is a base model with aftermarket leather seat covers, $17K is way too high of an asking price.
If you can't get the price down to something reasonable, keep searching.

TTL makes it $17k out the door. The seats are factory, I axed. Also, the tires may be original, they match the date of the car and have normal wear. I think a little old guy owned it and drove it to the golf course only.

Now I have to make room in the garage for it. Looks like I need to get rid of at least 3 motorcycles. Anyone in need of a few bikes?
Sorry to disappoint you on this but the seats are not Chrysler factory. The Base model never came with leather. I said specifically not Chrysler factory because I'm guessing they're Mercedes factory out of an SLK. Looks like the SLK seat pattern otherwise its aftermarket (not that there's anything wrong with that). Enjoy it if you buy it.
I bough it! It's mostly all y'all's fault.
I drove it, and nothing is wrong with it, just needed to run to get some of the undercarriage squeaks out. I got an alignment and two front tires out of the deal. I see the original Conti's are on the back, and I can't wait to replace them. Will be fun wearing them out.
The GF has the same thing but with a autolameatic. I sure do like the stick tho, super supple and easy to feather. Anyone ever put a slipper clutch in one? My truck has one, but after 90k of city driving, aren't they all?
$15,900 out the door with the tires and alignment. A good deal if you ask me considering I was budgeting 20k.
Off to magnaflow.com and needswings.com!
Thanks for all your help, my pocket book is mad at you. But the GF is happy she's got a parts car now. She's going to get slightly used shocks, springs, airfilter, rims, and other parts that I rip off my XF.

Congratulations on the new ride. Welcome to the grin factory. I would say you got a pretty good deal and you will have lots of fun now......spending money on mods and upgrades.

Thanks! I've been making v-6 sounds all morning. Slam shifting when I make the hairpin turn into the bedroom from the hall, and topping 'er out when I take the dogs for a rollerblade-run.
