Default Exhaust Size

Hello, I just got the roadster and wanted to look at mufflers. What size is the stock pipe?

2-1/4"

In considering mufflers, you may want to look at a thread on this page re; ANSA mufflers ... several of us have installed one of these recently and each of us is extremely happy with both the price and the sound ...

Contact Paul B, who is the director of business development for ANSA
$201.53 + shipping (+ sales tax for residents of CA or GA) ...
this is the wholesale price that dealers pay ...
sound is very European in nature ... logical, since these mufflers are made in the same plant that makes them for Lamborghini, Masserati, et al ...

Here's another possibility. The Magnaflow 16633 for $350 has been installed by many Forum members. Most of us that have it love it, but some think it's a bit loud with some drone. It is a direct bolt on catback, so you can save the original. I personally like the added sound. The OEM is a great quiet muffler. Why replace it with something that is marginally different? Get some Magnaflow sound! Here's a link for more info:

Do some youtube searching......most all of the available options are there for you to see.

Personally, I like the 16633 Magnaflow cat-back, so that's what I installed.

As a sidenote....if you're going with an entire cat-back system, be forewarned, you have to remove the underbody brace on the Roadster. When I did mine, I just removed the 4 bolts at the back and let it drop down a little, I had just enough clearance to get the old stuff out and the new in.

If you decide on nothing but the muffler you shouldn't have to mess with the brace.

I've had both the magnaflow and ansa. On a scale of 1-10 and the OEM 1 and the magnaflow being 10, I would place the ansa at 3 as far as increase in sound. The ansa has no drone and the magnaflow has drone and why I replaced my magnaflow.

Just to clarify, Crossfirefrank had a Magnaflow 14861 muffler, not the renowned Magnaflow 16633 Catback. They are completely different with the same brand name. So, don't compare apples to oranges. If you do a search, you will find Borla to be another option that has a setup specifically for the Crossfire. It appears to have a resonator that probably reduces sound and drone. Like the 16633, it is a direct catback bolt on with no welding, cutting or hacking required. I installed the Magnaflow 16633 in about an hour in my driveway with out much difficulty. I have the complete OEM that I could put back on in half that time if I or someone I sell it to wants to restore it back to original.
