Default Soft tops still on backorder ...

In June the driver's side of the rear glass separated. Visited the dealership, (back)ordered new top (warantee), re-sealed glass to top with clear epoxy (looks like crap).

Yesterday, passenger side of rear glass separates. I'm sitting at the dealership right now waiting for epoxy - round 2. Soft tops still on backorder with no word on expected date. Phooey.

You'd think now that all the bankrupcy stuff has passed, and with the backing of our increasing government involvement, we should see an improvement in Chrysler's ability to pay the vendors and get parts moving again.

It rains ALOT in FL this time of year. Luckily, the epoxy from round-1 is still holding firm, and maybe ..., just maybe, when they re-seal the rest, it will last until my new top arrives.

What a pain ...

With nothing at all to substantiate my claim, you might as well forget about ever getting a new rag top from Chrysler. The business environment of the auto industry is so screwed up that I doubt if re-stocking replacement parts for a limited production and discontinued automobile is on the immediate to-do list for either GM or Chrysler.

You might as well find a local vendor to fabricate a new top. While you're at it, for the non-black genre, get one in a color to accent your Crossfire body.

And while sharing SLK parts with MB offers some hope, one would suspect that ALL body and trim parts for the XF will become increasingly rare. So watch that rear-view mirror, and if you reside in Florida, KEEP THE DAMN THING IN THE GARAGE!

Regards.

It's a daily driver and I -WISH- I had a garage to keep it in, at home ..., or at work. Best I can manage is to find one of the few tree shaded spots at work.

I just hope Chrylser will come through on the replacement. It's one of the main reasons I got the Extended care warantee.

(... still waiting for epoxy to cure)

Hate to burst your bubble but the top isn't covered in the Extended Warranty, only the mechanical parts of the top are. I've already tried claiming it and it was unsuccessful. I pleaded with Chrysler and the best they could do was to lower the cost a little bit

Just wondering if anyone has E-mailed or telephoned the Karmann facility in Michigan. It is my understanding the Michigan plant is still operating and should have some ideas on repair or replacement of our tops. Their web site says nothing about closing down and afterall, it is their business and their creation. Just a thought

My parents (in south florida) are going throug this right now with their extended warranty, if you do get it covered, please let me know where so I can send them there. Thanks.

And garage or no, it will happen. My folks sits in a garage all day and the window literally fell out one day....

This glass should have been designed and installed in a pocket. If you ever have a top made, be sure they fabricate it as such.

I guess only two flaws - a lousy rear window and a crummy cup-holder - ain't bad for an otherwise delightful little roadster.

I just got mine back from Classic Auto Interiors in Tampa and I have to say it's a top notch job. Obviously time will tell but the window hardly baffled while on the highway and the canvas material is so much nicer than the OEM canvas.

I know it might be a little steep but I think it's worth the $1,400 upgrade even if you don't have issues
