Default New Alpine...

Installed a new head unit into the DC'Xfire's Roadster. We bought the Alpine iDA X-100M for the i-Pod function, and also because the unit is designed for marine applications, it has extra protection against moisture. Perfect for the Roadster.
And it has a silver face which matches the Crossfire's consol. Here's a pic of the installed unit.

Looks great. So many people are afraid to swap out the radio because they are afraid it won't match the interior. That is not the case. I have a blaupunkt and it is silver... matches real well. Plus I get to enjoy the Ipod hook up and all the extra features it comes with.

That's a great head unit, congrats. Best out there for the iPod. Blends perfectly with the dash, too. I put one in last year. Pics are in my gallery.

That looks great, would love one! my only problem is my standard has the Sat Nav in and I cant stand Tom Toms and things of the like that you have to add on and stick places it really doesn't fit!! Albeit that the Sat Nav rarely works very well it is a nice addition. It always seems to be about a mile behind me no matter where I go!

[Edit: maybe if I slowed down a bit it may help??]

That looks great! One little thing you could do to improve the appearance, however, would be to paint the surround piece silver instead of leaving it white. Still, white is less offensive in this application (to me anyway) than a black surround would be. I installed a Blaupunkt St. Louis in my car a year or so ago and the surround was black, so I painted it silver. Now it all matches!

Still, that's a great looking HU you've got there.

Hey Mike,
I had suggested the same idea to DC'XFire, but she said not to because it goes with the Alabaster. I do as I'm asked , and do the work as directed.
Thanks to all the other comments. Later

Does the iphone work with this unit also? I have a Blaupunkt head unit now, it works fine with my iPod, but not my iPhone.

I went back and looked in the start up disc. The unit does Bluetooth and I-Pod. But it doesn't say anything about the i-Phone. I don't know if the unit would treat the phone as a bluetooth or i-pod or both. You might ask Alpine how they might interact. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

I have basically the same unit but mines not the Marine version. It has a dark trim ring. As far as I know the Alpines are either Red or Blue lighting which is the only drawback. Remember you can always paint the trim ring or do a carbon fiber or other dash treatment. Nice looking unit there!

Nice choice, I'm a big fan of Alpine. Great look and nice fit. How's it sound compared to the stock unit?

I just bought this HU from a forum member, and should be receiving it in the next day or two. I have the Alpine IVA-W505 double din HU in my DD. I am looking forward to installing it. If anyone is in need of a stock Infinity W/Nav HU, send me a pm.

Thanks, I'll call Alpine and see what they say.

Thanks, I had started to do the "Biggest Bang Stereo Mod" and I had already bought the caps to do this when my unit arrived for my XFire. I did the HU install and was litterally blown away by how much diff. the HU made that I didn't do the speaker mods for almost a year. Then I did the speaker mod and the subs now work like they were intended to do. I'm just sorry I didn't do the speaker mods at the same time I put in the HU. I had already done the mod on the Roadster, so now DC'Xfire's sounds as good as mine does. These are awesome systems with a little tweeking, no need to replace anything as far as speakers or the amp is concerned (unless you're into compitition decibles).

I'm still looking at different hu's. I've think I've settled on the x100m. I just have a couple of questions, when you wired it up. Did you wire it any differently from the harness? I've read some people have run extra wires to the amp and spliced them in. I"m going to do the speaker mod when I install the new hu. I'm just not that good at trying to figure out where to spliced extra wires in at as others have posted. What I want to do is, install the new hu to the new harness. Do the speaker mod, and have everything work and sound good.

thanks for you help, sorry if I've asked too many questions.

There are detailed wiring instructions on the site somewhere. Do a search and you'll find it easily. I used those to wire mine last year, and had no problems.

I just followed these instructions on both of the installations, both work great.
