Default top went halfway then stopped

I was pulling into the driveway putting the top up at the same time when it stopped halfway. The trunk wall is in place. The windows work but the button won't do anything. What happened?

I would suggest only opening/closing the top while still:

For safety reasons, the convertible top should only be
opened and closed when the vehicle is standing still. Top
operation is allowed up to a maximum of 9 mph (15
km/h). Above this speed, top operation will cease and an
audible warning will sound. The top operation can be
resumed after the vehicle is below the maximum speed
by pressing the convertible top switch again.

If the top still doesn't work, I would try the manual overide procedure outlined in the owner's manual (page 195 in mine). Then I would try to cycle it again.

Best wishes. Hope it works out for you.

Shitsky's. I wasn't aware there was another way of putting the top up without the switch.

It's at a Chrysler stealership right now.

I will call them in the morning and make them aware of this because they probably don't know jack squat diddlly poop about this car.
Thanks, I'll let you know what happens.

Ok, the stealership just called and they found a problem with the separator switch in the trunk.
They apparently repositioned the switch.
They also had to reprogram the computor though I'm not sure why.
At any rate they're only charging $100 for the repair which I find remarkable.

Check to make sure you have the tool to do it manually. There is one for sale on Ebay.

It's amazing what you can learn by reading the Owners Manual, try it sometime.
I should read it myself, so that makes me like you and the same as most of us I am sure.

Just out of curiosity, if the roof stopped halfway through it's travel while in your driveway, how did you get it to the dealership? Enclosed trailer?

It was a royal pain in the azz. Driving 30mph into a major head wind on a packed freeway feeder with the hazords on. Left hand on the wheel, right hand shifting gears and reaching up and holding on to the front roof edge to keep it from breaking.

I didn't even look around to see who all was staring. It wasnt the XF's brightest hour.

Btw, there's a weird lookin wrench thingy in the glove box. Do you use that somehow to crank down the roof?

That thing is a hundred and fifty pages long. Even if I did read it, I wouldn't remember half of what it said.

Yep, that weird looking wrench thing is what you could have used. Mine is missing. I need to get one.

Interesting...,
I thought the book says if the top is stopped mid-stroke in the cycle and left for greater than ~10 minutes, the hydraulic system will depressurize and cause the top to drop back... I wonder what in this failure mechanism prevented that from happening...

Ya, that would have been a nice feature.

I put my top up and down manually all the time it takes everybit of 2 minutes ,reason -I have been waiting on sensors for 3 months ,,,,, really no big deal a numder 6 allen and the multifuntion tool ......you really need to become familiar with this operation incase you get caught out in the rain and the top stops working ,,,,,rain inside the car can be catastrophic ,,,electronics ,,, pulling the fuses that supply the top will deinergize tHe pump and make it easy to manually move up and down.....FROM EXPERIENCE I SPEAK

I hope we are all reading and remembering this advice. I learned a LOT abotu my top last fall when the trunk lid jammed part way open and I had to Manually lower the top.

I learned about how the system depressurizes after abotu 10 mins. I also see now how easy it would be to put the top up and down with no hydralics, senors, etc.

Again, read the post above, read the manual about manual operatoin - and find and secure your top tool. LEARN TO USE IT!
