Default Couple questions.

OK, so last night I pushed my gas petal all the way down to the floor and it clicked?
is that like a sport mode? Seemed alot more responsive when I would click it all the way down, I spent about 30 minutes and a quarter tank of gas trying to figure out if it made it acclerate faster.

& the best type of oil? I know what BENZ recommends but I hear a little bit of ticking in the engine so maybe a thicker oil?

Thanks again guys.

Search for "throtle reset" for info on click. Any oil which meets MB 229.6 standard . It ranges from 0-40 to 5-40 European formula. Once agin search will give you tons of info. Enjoy the car.

229.3 and 229.5 seem to be common on the threads I've search. As far as the "ticking", I have that too. I think it's common in Benz's engines. Not sure if it matters which oil is used or not.

I've never experienced the "clicking", but maybe I haven't really floored it.

Here's a thread from way back discussing the "button" that made the clicking sound that you heard Shaun.

As for the "ticking" sound. I personally believe it's because of the type of oil that's recommended for our cars.
0w40 weight oil essentially has the viscosity of water when you start up a cold engine. So it only stands to reason that it's not uncommon to hear the ticking sound that you mentioned. As the oil heats up, that's when the higher viscosity sets in, and the engine should quiet down some what.
I use to change my oil and filter every 3k miles, (when I purchased my car brand new) and my engine was as quiet as a church mouse.
Everybody said I was throwing money away, so I started changing it at every 5k miles. That's when mine started ticking slightly at start up. I went back to changing it every 3k miles, but the initial start up clicking never went away, so now I just change it at 5k. and don't worry about it.

There's a little valve train noise upon startup and it usually goes away or quiets down when the engine warms up. If the car has sat idle for a while, the noise is more noticeable. I'm partial to Mobil1 full synthetic. If I was driving either car in the winter, I'd stick with straight 0W-40. Since mine are summer cars and I can get 5W-30 cheaper in 5 qt jugs, I use one of those + 3 quarts of 0W-40. If I lived in FL or AZ, I might consider 10W in the summer. I change the oil and filter before storing for the winter, so mileage can range from 3-10k over the summer. End of story.

I was just viewing an extensive clicking thread the other day, but I can't find now, even with a Search (probably a senior moment...lol...).

Either way, the concensus was that most engine click is caused by fuel injectors/fuel pressure, when the clicks quiets around 3000 rpm (due to engine noise over taking the click).

The second favorite pointed to lifters/oil on a cold start only.

And the worst case scenario revolved around a collapsed lifter, or bearing (just saying a bearing gives me the chills)...
