Suspect?
My 06 Convertible is for sale..Not much actiono far.. Got a e-mail response from some guy. The car is listed at 13,900. He said he will buy the car, sight unseen, send me a cashiers check to 23,4000. I then deduct my cost and the remainder, 9500, I am to give to a shipper to cover the cost of shipping. I AM VERY WARY. Any thoughts. Thanks

There is always a warning from Craigslist, Kijiji and other web 'Sale Sites" for this exact scam.
Here is a sample warning from the Autotrader Canada website :
High-value cashier's cheque from a distant buyer
High-value cashier's cheque from a distant buyer
- Distant buyer sends you an email offering to buy your item for a price exceeding its value
- A cashier's cheque is offered for your sale item, as a deposit on your vehicle or vehicle parts
- Banks will often cash these fake cheques and they hold you responsible once the cheque fails to clear
- Scam often involves a third party (shipping agent, business associate owing buyer money, etc.)
I bought my car from a lady who runs a business selling commercial equipment (dump trucks and what not) and she had a thick stack of money orders and checks for thousands of dollars --- all from this exact scam.
Example: She was selling something for $400. Guy sent three money orders for $950 each. He said "Oh no, my assistant sent you the wrong money orders.. please deposit them and send me the difference..."
The creepy thing is: She knew it was a scam, but the bank still deposited the money orders into her account, and SIX WEEKS LATER told her they were fraudulent and removed that balance from her account.

That scam's been around long enough to be called a true "Classic Scam". A few years ago I sold my Kawasaki Vulcan 2000 six times and got six fake checks. I strung one guy along for weeks, telling him all sorts of reasons I couldn't get to the bank to make the deposit. Toward the end he told me he was going to call the police. I said, "I am the police you d**n fool. Don't you see my email name?"
There's a group in England that are very active in scamming the scammers. You'll laugh your behind off reading their tales. Read them at www.419eater.com..
