Tire Question
My 07 Roadster has OEM Conties on it. I need to replace the front tires only. I have gone to my local shops and one of the stores told me that I should not mix brands. He said to keep Conties all the way around or there will be handeling problems. Is this true????
I have had may cars with different brands and tread on them but not a sporty car like a XF.
So many brands to choose from. I am not a real agressive driver and 99% of the time I do the speed limit.
I finally got my XF on road and I am loving every second of it.

not true, just the same on the fronts and thesames on the back. I have conti DWS's all around and I like them alot. Only performance tire that I know of outside of the Michelin Pilots that have a warranty. 50k

I run Michelin on the wifes S80 T6 Volvo and have had good results with them. Michelins in that size are 265.99 for the Polot Sport A/S+. So many choices

Kuhmo, Hankook, Michelin...I would go with Kumho for the price-and many here like them. But I would make sure that same style is available in our REAR size just to be sure when you replace them-they match.
I looked-they don't.

You can mix brands without any problems - front to rear. What he should have told you is that you should not mix traction/speed ratings. If your rear tires are Z rated summer tires, get Z rated summer fronts. If they're W rated all-seasons, get W rated all-season fronts. It doesn't matter if your fronts are Michelin and backs are Conti, or any other combination of brands.
The reason you should not mix traction/speed ratings is because if your rear tires grip better than your fronts you will understeer. If your fronts grip better than your rears you will oversteer. Remember: major oversteer is when you back end slides out on you (donut style) - major understeer is when you turn the wheel and keep going straight (like driving on ice).
