Default Tops backordered.

Brought the Roadster to Chrysler yesterday for a warranty top replacement and was told the part is backordered 2-4 weeks.

I was expecting the backorder but the guy was blowing smoke about the wait.

Anyone have a current estimate on time?
Thx

Nobody knows.
I'll bet it's more like 2-4 months.
The service dept I'm dealing with is the worst I've ever seen but they're the only one in the area so I'm stuck.

Got a call from the stealer today. The top came in and the XF's going in early thursday.
Took about 3 weeks.

Now, can I trust them to install it correctly and not go joy-riding??? I will take note of the odometer when I drop it off.

My dealership got me my top in 24 hours but that was before the recall. They did a great job & my top looks amazing a year later. I think that I am lucky to live close to a really great CJD dealership. The good thing about your top is that it is really easy to tell if they did it right or wrong as soon as you pick it up. Ask them what the time frame for the top is & they won't have time to test drive it. Good luck - you will love the new top!

When you get "a new top", is it just the fabric or more than that? Header/Latch? Folding Mechanism? What is included other than labor and new fabric and window?

It is just the canvas with the window.

I guess the tough part to get is actually the snaps (of whatever) that attach the canvas to the top frame. Dang widgets are always hanging everything up....

Took dealer seven days to get mine back in January but he had the car three weeks claiming he didn't have anyone who could put it on. Ended up having three of his techs do the job anyhow and I put 1000 miles on the loaner car he gave me. Hope it holds us if we have a hot summer because I don't think they'll replace it again if the window falls out.

A bit off topic, but pertinent for you...I assume you are taking it to Planet Dodge? From everything I know and have heard, the best place to go is to Spring Chrysler/Dodge. Definitely the best dealership I know of on the North side of Houston...

Disagree...to some extent. The toughest part is getting the dealer to agree to saying it is a manufactures defect and should be replaced. Anybody got something saying they agree with the rip look near the back please share. Even then they won't admit the leaking problem, if they even can get it to do so, is a warranty item under this purported wrap warranty.

It's taking Planet Dodge a 2nd day to replace the top. Is this normal or did the mechanic want to take the car out for the evening?

Getting my new top installed has been a nightmare! Gossett Chrysler in Memphis. Does anyone know if the cable is messed with when the top is being installed?

Ya gotta love this. Got a call from the stealership and they forgot to pull the car in shop so it sat there for 2 days. I told them I wanted the car for the weekend and I'll bring it back monday. They said the cashier will have the keys and to just stop by.
So I stopped in and the cashier handed a key over and said the car was out front.
I said this isn't my key and this guy said "it must be, just go try it." I went out and there was a gray NA Roadster with the back glass completly out.
I went in and said I'm looking for a triple black SRT6 Roadster.
He went out, looked at it and said "This is your car".
I said "to h3ll it is!
Another guy came out and said there's a black one in the back.

They finally came out with the right car.

If you have a gray Roadster at Planet Dodge, just note that they tried giving your car to a complete stranger.

To top it off, they wouldn't follow me home as I had 2 cars there.
All I can say is "WOW!"

Boy that is great customer service for ya!! Seems to be lacking in a lot of businesses these days. At least you found your car.

I am currently working with my local dealer as well as a Chrysler Customer Representative. The 2-4 week time is accurate. Brought my Crossfire in about 2 weeks ago. The new top is expected to be delivered to my dealership this Wednesday, 4/18/12. My dealer does not perform the replacement so a local specialty shop (with way more experience) will be doing the work. Chrysler is covering 100% of the cost of the top and the installation.

When I got my top replaced it took about 3 weeks also. The dealer told my that they are only allowed to order a top every 14 days. I went to Allen Samuels on 610 near Reliant Stadium. They did an ok job but the seals could have been installed better but I'd rather deal with that than my window falling out. I'm glad my repair was covered.

I got mine done by a Reputable Houston Auto Upholsterer "Stitches" on Highway 6. Joel the owner, is a great guy. Gave me an estimate, took it in the next day, he removed the existing top, and I took the car home the same day. Joel sent the top to GHH California the same day. Got a call from Joel about 10 days later, to say the top had been returned, took the car in the following day, and drove it home completed the same night. This was before I had got a letter from Chrysler, advising me they would extend my Warranty for my top to 10 years. Filled in a claim form for re-imbursment and got the FULL cost, no problems at all. AND I was prepared to pay for it myself GREAT Eh????
I would recommend "Stitches" to anyone, for all Auto Upholstery need, JUST had my headliner on my Jaguar XJ8 done yesterday, and done a Great Job very reasonably, also just a one day job.
