Pull your shifter to the left and tap it to the right to shift through the gears. 1, 2, 3, 4 and D.

BTW: You can tap it into '1' and nail the throttle, it will shift on it's own when it feels the need. ( usually around 5700 RPM ).

I get the most use out of mine doing downshifts.
Not sure if this is extra wear and tear on the tranny, but sure saves on brakes.

Another BTW: if you HOLD it in either left or right position, it will go to the max / min gear.

Supposedly, the TCM is smart enough so no damage will occur if you decide to put it in '1' at 90 MPH. Haven't tried that, but I believe it will just go to the lowest gear that does not result in > 5700 RPM.

Anyone had the ***** to try that ?

My car drops to second unless I've come to a complete stop. I don't think I've ever held it over running faster that about 35 or 40 mph, but based on what I've seen it do before, I'm not sure I would be brave enough to try it driving very fast.

Really? Then you might have the "W" on instead of the "S". If the "W" is one it starts out in 2nd.

Yup and it will only downshift to the safest lower gear at any speed

I am glad this question was asked. I only learned about this capability of my car (nothing in the '08 manual) at this year's Dragon. Pacemaker - the group leader of our run, suggested that it be used when we were into the drive, and mentioned that one time a participant burnt out his brakes at the Dragon. I didn't know what I was supposed to be using. I was running behind Don (SantaFeCruiser), and noticed that he was not braking when I needed to use mine. And I wondered about that until learning about Autostick. Don explained it to me and told me to try it until I felt comfortable with it. So I did. It was very helpful and easy once I got the hang of it. I mostly drive flat land, so I have not really used it since last Oct.

I can understand how this makes a significant difference in brake wear. I could tell the difference in my brake response both before and after the Dragon. And before and after using the Autostick. Sure am glad I learned about this and can read more about it from others. Thanks!

Alicia, shame on you.
I copied this directly from the '08 Owners manual.

Drive
The transmission automatically upshifts through FIFTH
gear. The DRIVE position provides optimum driving
characteristics under all normal operating conditions.

AutoStickT Gear selection
The transmission gear can be selected by pressing the
shift lever to the right or the left with the shift lever in the
DRIVE position. The gear currently selected is indicated
in the instrument cluster display. Briefly press shift lever
in the “D-” direction. The transmission will shift from the
current gear to the next lower gear. Shifting into another
gear that allows for quicker acceleration or to slow the
vehicle down is possible. Downshifts can also be performed.
Press and hold the shift lever in the “D-” direction. The
transmission will shift from the current gear directly to
the best gear for acceleration.
NOTE: To avoid over-revving the engine when the shift
lever is moved in “D-” direction, the transmission will
not shift to a lower gear if the engine’s revolutions per
minute limit would be exceeded.
Briefly press the shift lever in the “D+” direction. The
transmission will shift from the current gear to the next
higher gear.
Press and hold the shift lever in the “D+” direction. The
transmission will shift from the current gear directly to
gear “D.”

Wrong again, you didn't know that Onehundred80 is the designation of a self aware computer program ?
No mere human could ever hope to come close to it's knowledge level.

Re the comment about downshifting with the autostick being harder on the tranny and saves the brakes. Price a rebuilt tranny and then price a brake job. Makes the choice obvious.

Keep up.. you "pull back" to get it in drive.. when in drive push/pull it left.. hold and it drops to 1..push right..2nd push right again.. 3rd..push/pull left.. back to second.. follow this pattern...

Every time I drive my SRT-6, my wife's car ('12 Charger), or the '04 MB C230, I exercise the autostick.

Everything I've read over the last year and a half.. modifies engine parameters only.. TCU tune modifies tranny parameters..
