Default Soft top D handle-washer-shaft & linkage repair?

The handle used to open/close the top is loose. It will move up/down as if it were no longer tighten to the top/header. It appears the washer, which is pressed onto the shaft (which the handle connects too) has come off/is now loose. This shaft operates the linkage. New part(s) are cheapest on line at $275 Latch Kit #5174192AA. Question: Instead of replacing has anyone tried to drill the shaft and use a pin to keep this washer in place?
Thanks.

Ray thanks your saying its an item a dealer fixes N/C? My car is out of warranty. Given the nature of the repair I'm more comfortable having us do the repair. Pat would help at WDC too. I just don't feel that warm fuzzy feeling about letting non Crossfire experienced service department employees take the front of my soft top apart and reassemble it back to the nearly new condition it's in now. "Oh what a wrinkle? Really now, well that was there before, no wait that's normal they all do that" ya right.

Thanks Pizza. I did take it one and one time only since 2007. The top was down when I went to take it/drive home. ???? And why was that? No answer given....OK not cool.
It will cost me some coin but all said and done I trust my husband, Gary and Iamfink2/Pat completely.
Stinks, we don't slam the top always gently guide it down. I'm going to check on our extended warranty tomorrow, maybe that covers it. But if it does, I am not convinced I'd let them do the job. If I could watch them....
