New features for conv tops by Mods4Cars
Recently I visited the SLK forum and noticed that lots of those folks have upgraded the logic and features of their convertable, windows and wireless automation via a new product called SmartTOP which retails in the mid $250. Among several other cool features it allows you to raise or lower your top while moving (below user settable max of <=60kph). I want this!! You can also raise and/or lower the top/windows remotely so when you get to the car it's ready to go, or (if close enough) raise it without having to go to the car in the rain. So, I contacted the company and here is their response!! What do you think? Anyone in Las Vegas with a roadster they can loan for a couple days to get a free SmartTop?
------------
Hello David,
I got your inquiry forwarded from Sven in sales. We would very much be interested in working on the crossfire and making a SmartTOP available for it. Unfortunately we just haven't had a chance yet
to look at one here. Seeing that you have a forum there, would you be willing to post and ask people for a donor car in/around Las Vegas? I would need one for a weekend at least, maybe 3 days.
Whoever lends us the car will get the installed module for free.
I could also drive to LA or Phoenix in a pinch and develop there, but since this is a completely new module (not just a quick firmware change on an existing one) it would be better to have a car here at the lab.
I do have wiring diagrams already for the car, so all we really need is a car for a few days.
Thanks!
Best Regards,
Stefan Wilhelmy

Message : would you consider making SmartTop for Chrysler Crossfire roadsters? There are thousands still on the road, and I'm tired of getting wet :-) There is an active forum on www.Crossfire.org and I'm sure many members would be interested in a group buy. I'm sure one of the members would be willing to provide a donor car. FYI, the car is really an SLK 320/32 AMG under the skin. Thanks for your consideration.

I can think of a lot better things to do with $250. And heaven help the poor shlub who tries to lower his top when moving more than 12 mph. Sometimes the oem sets limits for a reason.
And, how do you lower or fully close the top remotely from a distance without manually turning/twisting the locking handle on the windshield??
Sorry to rain on your open Crossfire or parade.

Thanks DeltaBob, If you or anyone else is interested, here's a link to their SLK 32 AMG version. This company seems quite innovative, so while we can't do the remote top down/up thing, I'll bet there's other stuff they can do that we might want.

So, if there's anyone with a roadster in Las Vegas who wants to see what this company could do for us. That'd be great - otherwise, I'll let it drop.
Crossfires wouldn't gain nearly as much from a mods4cars module as fully automatic tops do. Since you already have the one-touch option available at a really low price, with mods4cars you would only be gaining the ability to move the top at a higher speed (if you deem that safe), and to start the closing sequence with your key fob (still having to lock manually in the front).
I just installed the modules on my Mercedes SL-Class roadsters and really love them. Interestingly enough, I find myself using the one-touch closing feature a lot thirty seconds before I park my cars at home. By the time I am parked, the top is closed... :-)

Whenever I read of mods like this (forgetting for the moment the big difference between our soft-tops and the hard-tops), I always think, "Yea, but what do you do with the car with the fancy mod fails and you need SOMEONE to work on it"?
This is a SLIGHT risk with Rudy's module, but a bigger risk with more complex mods.

Thanks for thinking of us, but I don't even have Rudy's mod, and he and I are friends....top is either up or it down.....I don't really care how fast or how slow....the car, that is another matter.....lol
